DVD Drive problem

Hi guys had a problem with my lads pc with his dvd drive it was not picking up dvd's in the drive but was picking up cd's so i thought the drive was broke. Got a new dvd drive through still the same problem any ideas on this i also have done a windows reinstall windows xp is os.

are you using some sort of Program? e.g. PowerDVD etc. generally you need something that has DVD decoding in it as Default XP wont do it(Tho there are DVD encoding packs for Windows Media Player) they arent in there by default

other thing you might wanna check in the Device Manager under ATA contollers. in the Secondary IDE channel(where the Drive should be located) under Properties/Advanced Settings. The Transfer Mode should be set to DMA if Available not PIO could also check for Firmware upgrades for the drive itselfHere hope that helps

Sorry m8 im a bit of a thick git i just got a m8 round to have a look and he told me its a cd rom drive i didnt read the info when i ordered the drive DOH! :-S

if you need a good dvdrom get a Pioneer... a little more expensive but none of the hassle, and don't get the disc insert type, get the normal tray ones.

I got a MSI CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. It's great, and the CD burner can make pira-- I mean, archive copies of all of my games (including SafeDisc v3 protected discs).
