DVD-RW not burning DVD Movies!

Hi all

MY DVD-RW is not burning DVD movies... I can make CDs, I can make data DVDs but just not Movies! It's not the meadia, because I've been using the same media for ywars and it's worked fine... is it just because the burner is getting old... ??

It's not branded, just an OEM that came with the PC

When you say 'movies' what do you mean? Do you mean making a DVD that will play in a DVD player?

Good point Angelkiller, too add: You cant simply burn an avi file to a DVD and expect it to be played in a DVD player.

I hope that isn't the problem, but necessary for clarification.

Sorry, a bit unclear.

I've been using ConvertXtoDVD for years to convert all types of video files. It's worked flawlessly all the time, but now since I reinstalled windows, it seems to be having problems.

And yes, burn them to play on a DVD player...

You may need to download the divx codec in order for it to work again.
Does it play in your media player before you burn it?

Thanks Asylum... Yeah it plays, I have all the required codecs. It convert fine, but as soon as the burn starts it says something along the lines of a "dirty laser", but it burns data DVDs OK!

Should of said that in your first post. Get a DVD drive cleaning disk or a new DVD drive.

If that's the case why does it burn data DVDs? Surely it uses the same laser!

When was the last time you cleaned the laser sensor for the player? You should visit your local store and pickup a laser cleaning disc.

Are you using the inbuilt Windows burner?

I had a similar problem myself - my drive couldn't burn either when I used the Windows burner nor when I used Media player. Check out my thread with the solutions I tried.

At the end I solved the problem by downloading the freeware Imgburn. Lol that thread is interesting to see what I went through to get it working, until I found out that all was solved just by downloading a free burner!
