no, I don't have alot of $$ and an INTEL quad is in my future. When AMD went with the "core unlock" feature I lost any respect I had for them...

as of now I only have 1 card, I recently sold my 8800sli setup for $texas and needed a low cost card until something cheap came along(250/260/etc)

I don't plan to upgrade to an I series anytime soon, the little extra preformance you get costs $$$ when I could by a nice 775 quad for less

right now the desktop is more of a hobby to see how fast it will go, the entire setup cost me almost nothing after I sold all of the old parts that came with the cases, and I still have a few other things I can pawn off. Its not bad for a free PC after a little work...

I use my laptop for just about everything

Q9100 ES 2.00 for batt life, 2.8 for gaming(unlocked multi)
4gb DDR3 hyperx PC8500 CL5
WD 64gb ssd+320gb WD HDD
OC nvidia 130m(not the best, but it will do 8500+ in 3dmark06)

I would find an Asus or any reputable brand in the P35 chipset. Best bang for your low dollar in my opinion.

Sorry to say this but AMD never came with that feature, afaik some mobo brands came up with it.

Be happy with very good overclock. E6300 is bottom of the barrel of that line.. 6400 could prob hit 3.5. E8400s seem to be on sale around $100 and can hit 4ghz easy.

yes, but mobos wouldn't need that feature if AMD didn't release a "tri core" because "at the time" intel's quads were kicking their virtual butt...

lets not turn this into an AMD vs intel thread, I have my opinions, you have yours, neither are worth anything:toast:

I think I know were I can get a 6400 for free/cheap....

my B2 stepping E6400 runs 4ghz all day long;) The E6300 wasn't "bottom of the barrel" it just takes a board capable of a 520-ish FSB and balls enough to volt it properly;)

All I have to say is shame on you tpu. He clearly stated he doesn't want to buy a lot of new hardware, he just wants to push the chip higher! With that said if you want SLI and you want to go higher than 3.5ghz, then im not 100% sure what is out there. I know the biostar tpower was a popular board, hit a lot of fsb records. My HTPC runs an E4300 @ 3.2GHz stable 24/7 off an old evga 680i board. I've had it up to 3.4GHz but temps and vcore were crazy.

I bet you could find an old 680i/780i mobo for cheap.

I know I know...he doesn't want to spend money but if he wants to reach his goal and his current mobo is limiting him then...

I didn't think you were, it seemed that most of you kept saying to buy a new system instead of suggesting what he originally asked for, that is all.

I had an e4300, took that proc to 3.56ghz, nearly double :D ran it on a p5b dlx - great board.

I think (personal opinion) you should give up SLI and get a p45 board, or stick with your current oc and keep your board/sli

I will probably stay with my current setup until BF3 gets closer to being released, then I will do a major overhaul of everything

I'm on my way to pick up a GTS 250 for $45, that will likely become a phisx card and a pair of 5xx cards will go in with it, along with another 4gb of ram, and a qxxxx of some sort:rockout:

MSI P45 Platinum can do FSB 545.
Gigabyte 965P-DS3P can do FSB 525.
All air cooled, stable.
Sorry couldn't post the proofs as the screenshot were gone.

You need a good MB to find max OC from your cpu.

I have the urg to tweak some more...

and 775 boards have dropped in price...

my budget is $60ish, and I would LOVE for it to have a northbridge cooler that I could replace with the waterblock pictured above.

I'm posting these in the hopes that non of you buy these until I chose....

acer OEM 780i chipset.... IDK, the acer part along with the lack of info has me worried...
possible lifetime warranty with a little help from the local mom/pop/college kid PC store?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ACER-OEM-MSI-780I-MOTHERBOARD-/230590476951?pt=Motherboards&hash=item35b0437297
possibly a re-badge of this...
http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=&prod_no=1372

MSI 750i... this one looks to be my best choice...
http://cgi.ebay.com/MSI-P7N-SLI-MS-...518453963?pt=Motherboards&hash=item20b78d72cb

EVGA 750i FTW with 1-2 bent pins... shouldn't be too hard to fix, but if I screw up I'm SOL
http://cgi.ebay.com/EVGA-123-YW-E17...689233620?pt=Motherboards&hash=item1c19a38ed4

Jetway P45 refurb direct from jetway...

EDIT
evga 680i with a few bad caps...
I can replace them, but there is the risk of having some sort of wierd solder that doesn't melt until 900*+f
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300530332587

if you buy these...
... I will find you...

is there some unknown feature in the MSI board that I have enabled/disabled and should have disabled/enabled? I can't even get a 400fsb on my e6300...

mem/cpu are not linked, and I'm manually setting them to run in a 1:1 mode...
eist/spread spec/DOT are all disabled
mem timings set manualy

voltages
1.4cpu
1.45 fsb
1.51 north
1.66 south...
