keep the desktop, and get an old laptop!! that whole college requires a laptop myth is BS. I have a desktop and sum cheepo laptop. I only used the laptop when i was at the library, most of the time i wrote papers in my room on my desktop. could've lived with only a desktop. and never bring ur laptop to class, i still wonder why people roll up and fck around on facebook- attendance isnt being taken... those people then always say WHY DID I GET AN F!?!? haha

all depends on how much you stay at school, for me it's extremely convenient to have a notebook because I travel a lot as well from school to home to my fiance's etc.
