Edifier r2850 +T5 sub

Hi, I've got edifier r2850. Wanted more bass so bought edifier t5 subwoofer. When i connect sub to sub out the speakers stop playing low notes only subwoofer plays it and it gets more quieter than only speakers. Is there any way to make them both plays low notes. Or i need external sound card? I thinking to buy soundblaster x3 is it gonna be possible to connect 2 front speakers and subwoofer like 2.1 system?

Thats how its supposed to work, there should be a gain (volume) control on the sub though so just bring that up a level that blends with the speakers well and sounds right.
