Got an i5 2500k on its way and i cant decide between motherboards. Ive got about £120 to spend and was looking at the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H. I would like a Z68 chipset board because im interested in Virtu.

http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials...DDR3+PCI-Express+Motherboard+?productId=44509

Hard deciphering the minor differences between motherboards, its headache material.

Theres also the Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 on Aria, doesn't need to be from Aria.

I don't have any specific recommendations, other than that I like Gigabyte as a brand and you should get a mobo that implements UEFI, not BIOS. Apparently, Ivy Bridge won't work with a BIOS.

Most of them have UEFI, i think Gigabyte have 3D BIOS dunno if they are updating Z68 boards for it as they all use touch bios.

For Ivy it has to have pci ex 3.0 i think?

I'm in love with my P8Z68 Deluxe from Asus, I'm not sure what your price range is, but this thing is killer!

For some reason in a few places its discontinued but its way to expensive for me, something at £120 is enough for me.

Its discontinued cause there's a new version out that supports PCI 3.0, that's the only difference.

There's also the P8Z68 Pro, the Deluxe's little brother. I think you don't get the front USB 3.0 breakout box, but otherwise they're the same, YMMV on that, however.

Get a Gigabyte Z68 board if you prefer Gigabyte. I'm on a ASUS P8P67 Pro. Absolute beauty. No useless fancy stuff. Only the good stuff.

Not necessarily there will be some boards with compatibility, although I am pretty sure the ones that have PCIe 3 links are going to be compatible. I am not going to assist you in buying either board as I am a HUGE fan of the Extreme3 G3 (rather biased tbh).

The Extreme4 Gen 3 is popular but its a bit dearer. The gold caps and overall design of the Asrock Extreme3 Gen3 is really nice, if there is no real difference i might get that board.
Anyone know what the grey audio connection is on the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H?

The Asrock has the optical audio placed there instead. I only run a 5.1 set so it doesn't matter, i was just interested.

There is a few boards in the sale but not that many Z68 in this price range. About 20 boards on sale, they swapped the specials at 1pm today because when i had a look at 9am there was only a few things left.

In the price range in the OP, I would go with the MSI I posted or the Asrock. Both look like great boards it is up to you in what it has for what you do with it. Bye the Bye what do you want from this board?

Features i am looking for are; possibility to go crossfire so a sli/crossfire board would be ideal, z68 chipset because im interested in lucid virtu, e-sata and an onboard USB 3 header.

Most of the boards ive seen have those features and the ones posted in the thread, they all have good build quality too.

Pci-e 3.0 for ivy is not necessary, my boards supports ivy, with 902 bios.

Ah so its not required but just preferred. I should be able to get pci ex 3.0 compatibility in this sort of range anyway.

5pm aria change the specials again :)

Nah no new motherboard specials, CANNOT get the Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 out of my mind so might just go with that if i cant see anything else. £112.69 inc postage is a good deal i think.

Weird, says this on that link-Current non-SLI LGA1155 motherboards from ASUS can also take advantage of PCI Express 3.0

Mines not on the pci-e 3 list, but the p8p67-m is which is the same chipset etc, just has xfire but no sli support.

Edit actually, the p8p67-m is on both lists, weird

Okay, just had a long look and the Extreme 3 Gen 3 doesnt have a USB 3 header and the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H doesnt have PCI EX 3.0

Might go for something from MSI instead because i do like the military class components. MSI (G3) revisions support PCI Gen 3 while (B3) do not.

PCI-E 3.0 won't be use for a while since GPU's aren't using it yet. Even then, it'd make a miniscule difference over 2.0. So I wouldn't base my purchase over it. As for MSI's military class, it's bull. High current inductors are solid along with the transistor-like caps (Tantalum), but you wouldn't get much of those on the GD-45. I went for the GD-80 and it's solid but there're better options on the lower end. You don't want the Click BIOS for example;

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/06/21/msi_p67agd80_motherboard_review/7

Shoot for the AsRock. ;)

The G3s are Click Bios II if thats any better? I dont know i quite like the option of having PCI Ex 3.0 and a USB 3 header as i plan to keep this board for a while. I was considering the MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3); its £125 with free shipping. I dunno you kinda put me off now not in a bad way i just dont want to grab any random board. Can't make up my mind. I think I've seen all the boards in this price range so far, unless i look at lower priced boards.

Looked at some P67 boards but the prices are just shy of the Z68 so i thought it was pointless.
I looked up the MSI Z68A-GD55 (G3) and it seemed pretty solid and the ASUS P8Z68 V was kinda the same but has 3 pci ex slots, the last one is PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 Bandwidth).

Just went for the Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 as i dont think the USB 3 header is worth paying the extra money. The looks of the Asrock are nice and apparently it clocks okay for the price, you wont be pushing 5ghz+ but i just want a nice 24/7 clock.

£112.69 + free delivery. I'll post a pic or something when it arrives.

PCIe 3.0 won't help anytime before 2014. As it is we haven't been able to squeeze any performance from PCIe 2.0 over PCIe 1.0

Even dual graphics card can not use so much bandwidth. By the time PCIe 3.0 is required, you'd have upgraded a couple of times more. So no point.
