Check your graphic card's settings!

If you have an AMD card, go into Catalyst and check the Mipmap Detail Level in 3D Application settings under Gaming. And Nvidia users do the equivalent (sorry I can't remember offhand)

If that setting is set to "performance" it will override the game settings and you'll get crappy textures even with everything on Ultra!

Here's an example, both with the same ingame settings on Ultra but with no AA:

High Mipmap Detail level - textures are OK

Low Mipmap Detail level - textures are horrible!

TBH I think even the highest textures look horrible for a modern game, I understand it's a big world though. Looking forward to a HD texture pack mod in the future ready for when I play the game through.

I stuck it because there will be a lot of people playing the game and they can conveniently find the thread. I can always unstick it when the novelty wears off.

Thanks though this is a general thing everyone should really already be aware of. I only set "Performance" when benching. Whether to set it at Quality or High Quality is different and worthy of some research and testing-- that really depends on the game and your hardware. High Quality is all driver optimizations off and in some well-supported games you can get it running a lot better with little to no IQ sacrifice by choosing Quality instead.

Names been changed; it's the "Catalyst AI" option. Texture Filtering. You are on Quality now. I would try High Quality as there isn't good driver support yet and it may it look a lot better. It also may drop fps a lot though, likely less in the future. Give it a shot...

Note I said we all should generally be already aware of this pretty basic and important driver setting but granted as they changed the option name recently some folks may not be up to speed. Though actually now it's a lot more "layman" friendly as it says "Texture Filtering Quality", imo. I mean, WTF is a mipmap?

Yeah wierd there are three "ticks", you are presently on the middle one, and High Quality is all the way to the right (like 99% sure that's what its called). No name on the right?

I think the UI is pretty lame.
Textures aren't too bad, but the geometry sucks at times.
CrossFire works negatively for me.
I don't care, I love this game so far... as it turns out more than sleep and possibly more than my girlfriend.

Does this game support directx 11? Ive been reading around, and it says yes. However, when I fire up the game, MSI afterburner on screen display state its using DX9? Do I have to enable it somewhere in the options or something?

Nope. There is a folder in the game that says DX10 though.

Yeah, I was also wondering about that.. thought it had dx10 as well, and my setup was forced to run dx9. Sigh.. oh well, perhaps a future patch

Its not even running on dx10.. just dx9. From the looks of it, engine would really get a performance boost if dx11 was used with 1:1 dx9 effects

No, the Catalyst AI option is the one immediately before it. I tried Catalyst AI too, but I didn't see any difference whether on low, high or in the middle so I left it in the middle. What makes a real difference (as visible in my screenshots on first post of this page) is the 'mipmap' setting:

Not really. It's nearly all speculation before the game was released. And it's 50 pages long already. About time that thread got locked actually.
