This really says it all;
We are concerned that 'Fortnite' may be replicating the experience for which 'PUBG' is known

I'm a great fan of independent developers, and the market needs new actors challenging the greedy major players who simply rehash the same games year after year. But evidently, these indies can be just as cunning and greedy.

The first major problem is the fact that PUBG is utter trash. If anything, people should sue PUBG Corporation for selling defective products.

The second problem is the fact that PUBG Corporations tries to stop the competition, not because it actually violates their trademarks or IP, but because the success of the competition is "threatening the popularity of Battlegrounds". And some of us considered the behavior of companies like EA to be bad… Also, keep in mind that PUBG didn't invent any aspect of this genre.

Some opinions on PUBG (profanity warning)

Please don't give your money to companies like this, companies like this are the problem in the gaming industry.

I'm concerned that 'PUBG' may be replicating the experience for which real games are known for.

<snip>
Fortnite -> Fortnite Battle Royale couldn't have happened in three months. For a big company like Epic, that's just quality assurance time. Battle Royale had to have been in development much longer--at least a year.
Yes, you're absolutely right. Anyone who has worked in software development can confirm that development takes a lot of time, usually even more in larger companies compared to small indie studios. Just the last rounds of QA and tweaking probably took way more than three months.

Ha! I wasn't the only one to pick up on that. ;) I dismissed it as a rough Korean->English translation.

PUBG is basically suing Epic for copying their "look an feel" and releasing a "similar" product. I'm not familiar with Korean laws, but these claims wouldn't stand in U.S. or EU courts. PUBG Corporation is now conducting the same kind of behavior that Microsoft, Apple, etc. have been conducting in the past.

I don't like what Apple does either, but they break down design (both hardware and interface) to maniacal levels. They've written thick books on it for years. So I can understand somewhat where their compulsion comes from. It's not just one thing they complain about nor does it come on a whim.

In any case, this isn't something I'd like to see SK copy from Americans.

About only legit claim pubg corp has is the "but also its USP of dropping players in arenas empty-handed, " the rest well is and was done before pubg was released so they have no legit claim. As to add on to the end of 2nd paragraph they could use h1 as a defense as that predated pubg doing pretty much everything they claimed short using plane/bus to drop people in.

Bogus Lawsuit period. Bet part of reason they are doing this is cause user base of pubg has been shrinking, even big streamers don't play it as much.
Exactly. This is the definition of "frivolous".

If the judge doesn't throw it out I'd be surprised.

What a bunch of garbage Last Man Standing has been around since quake and Unreal Tournament and I believe Doom too. I believe Duke Nukem as well.

Oh well so much for me thinking about playing player unknown battlegrounds I think I'll just to go play fortnite and whatever Unreal Tournament version there is out there now go back to playing Borderlands and OverWatch

If so, it makes sense why Pubg is doing what they're doing. They simply can't compete and are resorting to the last thing they have...which is a long shot itself.

He's blowing it out of proportion. We've seen tidal waves like this before...he never mentioned Minecraft. Also that game with the physical pieces too.

He's also very wrong: it's not a game for everyone just like PUBG isn't a game for everyone. I was interested in Fortnite's original plan (apparently releasing this year some time): a tower defense game sort of like Sanctum. I have zero interest in Fortnite Battle Royale.

Fair enough. I think he just meant "everyone" though in the sense of social groups (like encroaching on other FPS fanbases as well as NBA 2K's playerbase).. as well as pop culture attraction (celebrity fans). You know a game is pretty popular when the hardcore and mainstream are playing it alike (WoW, Skyrim, CoD, etc).

I had no idea they did an Infinity War tie in.. that's kind of a franchise in itself that attracts everyone too.

PUBG Corporation is suing to get a piece of Fortnite's revenue, because their income is declining. If they "can't compete", they should make a better product.

Yes, absolutely.

Minecraft is one of many good examples of these manias. Minecraft was just a poor ripoff of another game, but became immensely popular, and it spawned a whole lot of new clones, and variations on the same concept.

But this isn't new, just in the past few years the same thing have happened with Team Fortress 2 causing "everyone" to create their own variant. Before that we had years of MOBA games before DOTA 2 started to dominate, and before that we had years of tower defense games. Those of you who remember the "golden age of PC gaming" might remember the RTS genre spawned by Dune II, quickly followed by Warcraft and C&C, then a truckload of poorly made clones nobody remembers until Starcraft basically killed the genre due to serious design faults.

No. They are very different games both in play-style and in concept. Fortnite is very excellent. PUBG wishes it was that good. And that is why the case was pushed. PUBG's creators are butt-hurt about how good it is and how it makes their game look like amateur-hour. And yes, I've played both..
