Hi, I'm new around here. I actually found TechPowerUp! Forums while searching for how-to's on building a computer desk. Since I am also building a new computer, I thought I'd post it here and see if you guys have any ideas. I already have the monitor, keyboard, mouse. So I am looking purely at the tower. I want to keep the price close to $1000. Here is what I have come up with so far, just from browsing newegg yesterday. I really don't know what the hell I am doing though, so any suggestions are welcome.
Processor:
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply
CD/DVD-RW:
LG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache IDE CD/DVD Burner LightScribe Support - OEM
Heatsink/Fan:
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7
Operating System:
Ubuntu (Free)
and
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders - OEM
Misc Stuff:
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound
Total: $1013.89 (assuming Newegg's deals will be there when I purchase, then about another $60 from rebates)
What I am most concerned about at the moment is whether or not my RAM will be compatible with my MOBO, but if you see anything else that might be wrong with my build please let me know. Thanks!
