ever since today, whenever I would go into a folder with videos (such as anime or movies).. i would get the windows error report.. when I would check my event log I get this

event 1000

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2894, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

does anyone know what this is, or how I can fix it?

edit;

it doesn't happen when I view it in the folders.. only when I click on a file

What program are you trying to use to open the media files? Try a different program, see if that fixes the problem.

Are you accessing the files remotely? This is the solution from Microsoft.

it's not that I'm trying to open them with a program.. by just clicking on it, explorer would crash..

sorry for not making myself clear.. I uploaded a small vid (about 30 secs) demonstrating my problem.. would appreciate it.. thanks

OK, errors like that usually come up because Windows is trying to preview the file.

You can shut that feature off by doing this:

Go to your start menu and click the Run... option.

When the run box pops up, type this: regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

Hit enter.

You may have to restart Explorer for the changes to take effect.

No prob. I'm an anime fan myself, and a lot of release groups don't use the official codecs, they use open source or third party alternative, which work great for playback, but windows can't handle a lot of those avi's properly.

And I thought knowing a handful of FreeBSD commands would be helpful....I guess not :p.
