So, I WILL NOT pay the prices for the latest and greatest video cards.

I'll get that right out of the way.

I have seen an EVGA 1660Ti XT Black up for sale at $250 shipped.

Is it even worth it? I've seen where the 1660Ti is about on par with the 1070's which seems like are selling for more.

I was planning on upgrading a system that's currently running a GTX970 and thought that the 1660 would boost performance?

Honestly it would seem like the 1660Ti's should be more in the $150 range but with the video card market now, it doesn't surprise me that they are still over the 200 mark.

Kind of up in the air on this though.

Any insight or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

The TI has ddr6 which is a decent jump from ddr5 which the 1070 is but the 1070 is an 8gb card where the 1660's are 6gb. Either would be a good upgrade from a 970 imo.

That was kind of my thoughts as well. I'm just wondering if it is worth $250 at this time.

Seems like everything in the 10xx and 20xx cards are still stupid priced.

A decent performance bump. Just checked Techspot's gpu pricing update and it looks like a 1070 (or ti) or 1080 may be better perf/$ for you. Until next gen and the market changes that brings

hi

It's a good graphics card and it's good for many games, but you have to keep in mind that in 10 or 15 years you'll have to change your graphics card, it won't run modern games from that era, it is better to save more money for something more current

remember that cheap ends up expensive

quick answer; NO.

i remember getting a 9600 1Gb for $150. so i really think my 3060 $330 (before it went crazy) was still a rip off.
my old 980ti ($650) not so much.

Nope, don't have anything in the 10xx or 20xx era
cant read, you said 970? yeah thats a decent bump but imho $250 still isn't worth it, i wouldnt pay like more than $100-150 for a card of that class in 2022 but apparently the gpu market's still not (fully) cooled down

tbh, are you unhappy w/ the 970? if yes, by any means do upgrade but be aware that you're not really doing anything above 1080-60 w/ the 1660ti either basically

That is pretty much what I figured as well. Seems like a stupid price for a fairly small upgrade.

For what its worth I did upgrade from RX 570 4GB 'trades blows with a GTX 970' to my current GTX 1070 in 2021 August since it wasn't really cutting it anymore in some games at my native 2560x1080 resolution.
I did get around 15-20 fps boost in most of the games I play and even more in some games that just don't like AMD. 'UE 4 games mainly'

At the time I paid almost the original/launch msrp of the 1070 for it but hardware prices in my country are just different so can't really compare to US ones.

Tho if it was today I probably wouldn't make this jump and just save up a little more and buy something more recent so to say. 'at least a RX 6600/XT/3060 or a second hand 2000 serie'

just wait. the whole mining phase is going bust and as mentioned above, retailers now have this stuff in stock. just wait it out a few more months. people with 2000 series and 3000 series are going to be dumping cards to raise money for the 4000 series.

Okay, so, not really specifically directed towards Nvidia, but what would be the better video card between a Vega 64 or the 5600XT?

Both about the same price.

According to TPU GPU Database the 1660Ti performs about 50% better @ 1080p than your GTX970. The Vega64 and 5600XT are roughly 70% faster. I wouldn't buy any of these cards today, unless for an older system meant for less demanding games.

Now here in Europe the Radeon RX6600 starts at $250 pre-tax. It has almost double the performance of your current card. I wouldn't go any lower than that if you intend to play modern AAA titles without having to sacrifice quality.

Okay, so, I have found a "lightly" mined 5700XT for $275 shipped.

Worth it? Or would it be smarter to stay clear of any mined on video cards?

Depends on your countries laws regarding purchases, here in the UK, if you buy something not as described, eBay, PayPal and credit card companies usually will have your back and protect the buyer from fraudulent transactions/not as described products regardless if it is new or used, mining doesn't necessarily mean run to an inch of it's life, if done on a low power vBIOS and looked after it could well be better than buying a gaming 5700 XT that has been abused for 3 years... if you have protection, go ahead, if not, tread carefully YMMV
