I bought this motherboard for $450.00 and I must say it's the best motherboard of all time for me. It has not fail me running i7 920 @ 4.0 24/7 for four years now. I really want to upgrade to sandy but I'm afraid that no other motherboards will match the quality and durability of this motherboard.

But I am not sure how much of a gain you will get moving to a Sandy bridge system. What do you use the system for?

I don' think you'll get that much of an increase performance wise, a little from clock speed increase (4,3-4,4 seems like a walk in the park for any sandy) and a little from more instruction per clock cycle. Nothing i think you'll be able to feel, but definitely an upgrade.

Where you will see a huge upgrade is the heat production and cooling requirement: once oced, the 920 consumes WAY more power than the sandy, even at stock it's 130w vs 95w. Power efficiency has dramatically increased in the last few years, so if you have any concern about power bills, it's a no brainer, assuming there's not that much money involved in upgrading.

From the way i see it, unless you want to play with another platform (which could justify the upgrade by itself...), stay with your bullet-proof system: your high-end platform is beginning to show it,s age, but not by enough to let go the quality it is built upon. Just my opinion though!

Thank you for all the input guys, I use the computer for just about everything, photo, editing, video streaming, gaming, and school stuff. It can still keep up with some of the demanding games like crysis 3, all i did was upgrade the gpu to crossfire 7950 and it's been butter smooth for 4 years for me. I really feel that I got left behind with some of the new stuff on the cpu side, 2 generation behind now I think. I have money save up to upgrade to Haswel. The question is how much of a difference will I gain If I go Haswel now? Here is the system.

Poor time to discuss these things since DDR4 can be here in as little as a year's time, and we don't know what the impact can be. In the meantime enjoy your 1366, its still a very competent platform. I personally wouldn't buy a new 1366 motherboard now, and prefer to direct people to Haswell, but you can still find motherboards x58 for cheap especially second hand so why not?
