EVGA GTX 780 card causing freeze, system shutdown and blackscreen (no input)

Hello there,

I am trying to repair my graphics card since a while now, searching in a lot of forums and changing a lot at the system, but nothing helps. I still don't want to give up on the card till I tried everything

It began on my old system with blackscreen and no video input for the monitor while I played The Witcher 3. The computer was still running but no graphics and sound was hanging.
I changed the PCI-E slot, switched to Win 10 (new Installation) with new drivers, got a new power supply a new SSD for the system partition. I cleaned up the card, got new heat paste and applied it. But MSI Afterburner and others said, that temprature was not a problem (max 74°C) When running furmark and prime95 stresstests the system was stable too.

After all that I got frequent system shutdowns, blackscreens and freezings. I now flashed the BIOS of the graphics card to default but it didn't work either.
When I have the card installed in my system but use the onboard graphic the system is pretty stable.
I tried another graphics card (GTX 6600 TI) and the onboard graphic and the system was totally stable also while gaming.

The only thing I know to do further is to bake the card in the oven. I hope you got some more ideas.

My system stats are:
Mainboard: AS Rock Fatal1ty FM2A88X+Killer
CPU: AMD A10-7700K
GPU: EVGA GTX 780 SC (with Arctic Accelero Twin Turbo 3)
PSU: be quiet! system power 9 500W


I really hope you might help me with some ne ideas how/what to repair

The card is most likely done for and in need of replacement.

Sadly, the CPU you’re running will severely hamper modern GPUs, so it’s a tough situation if you’ve got the cash for that much power.

Have you thought of any kind of budget for replacement funds?

You could try a reflow. Since you probably don't have a reflow station (I don't either...) A lot of people recover cards in a conventional oven.

Edit:

The typical reflow temperature range for Pb-Free (Sn/Ag) solder is 240-250°C with 40-80 seconds over 220°C. It should be noted that the recommended Sn/Pb reflow temperature range are less critical, and that minor deviations in temperature of equipment and components generally do not create soldering problems.

Well I will try the reflow then, as there appears to be no other actions. If this don't work I will use the my old gtx 6600 ti or buy probably an used RX 480 with 8gb

A RX480 is going to be held back so hard by your cpu. It might be worth your time to save for a full new rig.

reflow/oven bake might work, but even if it does work 100%, it only buys time before the card fails again down the road - there is no harm in getting a new, faster GPU for your PC but it wont work at full performance until you upgrade.

Unfortunately AMD's A-Series CPU's were under-performers when new and haven't aged well, so it probably even held your 780 back.

Yeah, ovening a card usually just gives it some life support, usually those aren't a permanent fix.
