EVGA GTX 980 Hybrid or Wait for GTX 980 Ti

I was going to settle upon Waiting for the GTX 980 TI, but the i seen The EVGA GTX 980 hybrid and was wondering which i should get. Which will have better cooling and which ill get more power for the money spent on it. Any Help would be much appreciated. My budget is $750

Well, there is no way any of us can actually KNOW this. Sure we have some spects on the 980 Ti, but we really don't know how it will perform and cool, etc. This is even more true because there will be a variety of coolers by partners which should cool remarkably well, as well as the reference cooler, which is actually really, really good as reference coolers go.

My advice: wait for its release as well as the 390 and 390X. See what they all have to offer and how they stack up against each other. And I know some will disagree, but my suspicion is that the 980 price will drop a bit. so if after comparing, you go with that one, you might save some money.

[Edit] Im not sure if i am going to get the 390 or 390x, i feel like if what people are speculating and that it can compare to the titan x than it will be a tad bit out of my price range.

It depends on if Nvidia authorizes partner boards/coolers from day one, like they did with the 970. If not, then it could be a weeke to a month. No problem at all with asking. The worst questions are the ones not asked!

The main idea is just that if the 390X and the Fiji chip are competative, it may force Nvidia to drop their prices on current cards.

I honestly find most the cards Nvidia is offering pretty fairly priced... That being said the Titans are still pretty costly but i think they are worth it, if they went any cheaper i think they wouldnt be looked at the same.

going for great 4k gaming no matter what game? knowing what your end game for monitors can help with opinions.

980sli seems like your cheapest route. maxwell is new and efficient but not earth shattering.. add the ti and spend hundreds more for like maybe around 10 percent higher performance.

the excitement for the 390x is the revolutionary hbm along with architectural improvements that will give it the grunt it needs to be that high quality 4k single gpu solution.

amd and a few others did develop hbm but not greedily and made it open standard. nvidia already has a new lineup in the works so you can stick with the green team if you want... just have to wait a little longer.

Well to answer your question I would wait because day 1 you can get some different coolers for the GTX 980ti unless Nvidia changes something (Which in my book is unlikely). Comparing the two its going to be a good bit more powerful (Based on the specs compared to TitanX only) than the GTX 980 so I would wait especially if your going to spend $750. So I would say wait for its official launch at least and make your decision since its so close and if nothing else wait on the AMD response so you can either make an even more informed decision or watch some prices drop. Either way you will come out ahead!

As for the pricing of the R9 3XX Fiji chips, they may go all the way up to 1k, but I would doubt that and I am better on around 650-850 range especially if there is a slightly cut down variant which will probably be around the 500-650 range. This is just my guess of course.

Im going for 1080p 60 fps mostly maxed out on most games if that helps with anything

1 980 will more than get that done. the 960 is targeted at 1080p.. more starts to become overkill.

i might suggest a 280x. plenty of horsepower with 3gb of vram and will push 1080p with max eye candy. save you some cash!

Well not exactly i said mostly maxed out. I could get a 970 or a 980 and reduce barley noticeable things (for me) and get about 60 fps

those charts are good for relative comparison but not realistic for someone at home playing games. guess to say MAX eye candy is a bit misleading.. the high aa they use for the charts is enthusiast lvl. just think about.. heck a 280x can do 1440p smooth and look fine.
you want to hold 60fps and use vsync.. i get it but new tech is moving away from that with gsync and freesync so you might want some cash left over for that.
you can balance your rig well instead of spending to much for a 1080p rig.
took me awhile to completely understand resolutions and how most gaming benchmarks are.

I can get 45-60 FPS @ 1440p with most games maxed out. You should have no trouble getting a steady 60 @ 1080. That's with a GTX970.

Witcher 3 is demanding especially when all the bells and whistles are turned up and that is why most cards stress when you turn everything up. At that point your essentially running at a higher resolution than 1080p with everything in that game turned up.

I really think any of the cards above 280X start to get a bit overkill just for 1080p 60, however if your going to spend $750 on the GPU and want to keep it for awhile and make sure everything is kicked up to max then your going to be better off waiting for the AMD Fiji chips and/or GTX 980ti.

Check out the AMD 295x2 . I have one using it at 3x1080 surround eyefinity. Until end of May 2015 only 600$ USD.

Definitely a better choice than any single Nvidia 980

Unless the game doesn't have a crossfire profile, or has a terrible one. Rule of thumb is always go for the best single GPU you can afford unless it's not powerful enough for the desired performance. In your case of eyefinity it makes sense. For a singular monitor @1080p, not so much.
