During my most recent eggscursion, I came across the EVGA 512-P3-N879-AR. The card is a non-reference GeForce 9800 GTX+ model. EVGA took the advantage of the lower thermal footprints of the 55nm G92 core, and developed this shorter card that makes do with a single 6-pin PCI-E power input. The cooler slightly resembes that of the 8800 GTS 512, but comes with a shroud that resembles that of the GTX 200-series cards by design.

The card is 3-way SLI capable with any other 9800 GTX+ card. It sports 512 MB of GDDR3 memory clocked at 2200 MHz, with the core clocked at 740 MHz, with an 1840 MHz shader domain. The card is available at Newegg.com for US $174.99 before a $25 optional rebate.

Then, we don't need PSU with 6 PCI-E Cables to run Tri-sli.

Have fun ocing them with less power in hand IMO.

I think it will affect them.

I know that tri-9800 with a qx9650 is very very boarder line with my 1k PSU.

When I OC it it sucks it down hard.......

The end of the QT is coming, and they are trying to get rid of what they have to make extra cash after ATi this last QT. That's what I think.

they most do this from beginning , cuz there is not too much different between 8800xx and 9800xx , so why it need more power 6-pin is enough

I like the fact they're trying to be different by trimming the length of the card down. For those Shuttle enthusiasts that like modding their cases to allow for dual slot cards might find this appealing, I know I would if I was still buying Shuttles.

228watts for a 6pin

Uses 2 6pin

745MHz while the 512MB of GDDR3 memory carries a clock of 2200MHz DDR.

I think it does take more power because there are differences.

Also id you wanted to up the voltage, and really push the card. If you wanted to do any Vmods to the card.

You might be waiting that 2ed 6-pin back, but then again for stock speeds. Maybe not needed.

PCI-e 2.0 mobos might not need a second 6pin - 150Watts comes from the board.

228watts for a 6pin

...

228w is for the entire computer, not the card. Look at the 8800GTS 512MB, the 9800GTX+ only uses 10w more than it, and the two cards are essentially the same. I don't believe the second 6-pin was ever actually needed on the 9800GTX, it was just put there for show, to make people think they were getting more of a card than just an 8800GTS 512MB with slightly faster memory.

More POWAAH never hurts :) But why would have NVIDIA designed it with 2x6-pin if it's not needed. If not anything else, less current trough one PCI-E plug, seen some of those melted/blacked out plugs in cards and don't want to see them on mine.

Good point, i think it was for show too or maybe it has something to do with the new core on the Plus editions, it's probably stable enough with one 6 pin.

But the card still has to work in the first one that has 75 watts.

I wish I could read Thai....

I would put down big money that Wile, Dom, or Goat could hit 900Mhz on this card stable gaming. In a week, if I could get them the card. Wile almost hit 1000Mhz on a single 120 rad water setup, and in the summer upstairs with no a/c running on the 65nm version of the chip.

I would place money that more than one 6pin would be needed to do that.

Yep, hit 950Mhz benching with a Maze5 and MCR-120. 890Mhz was 24/7 stable. With a 180W+ TEC or water chiller, I could've hit 1GHz, I'm willing to bet. I'd love to see what I could do with the die shrunk G92 tho.

I didn't even know about this card

Palit has a 9800GT with Sli same card as above but as you know cut down.

look it has one 6pin.....I just see it being better to have two plugs. Less stress on your PSU. More voltage and amps if needed. I don't see the down side. It's not like your going to burn it if you can't pull it to burn.

Actually, I wish my 9800GTX's had only one plug. It would cut down on the cable clutter in the case, and eliminate the need for the 4-pin to 6-pin adaptor I have to use for one of the card.

I've often contemplated selling my 9800GTX's and going back to 8800GTS's specifically so I could only have to deal with the single plug. Though I think I am just going to pick me up two of these instead.
