Exchange my GTX1080Ti FE for a GTX1080 FE (1080p 60hz gaming)

Hi,

I have an EVGA GTX1080Ti Founders Edition.

I play at 1080p 60hz.

i7-7700, 16GB 2400MHz.

A friend is giving me hes EVGA GTX1080 Founders Edition and US$ 410.00 back.

I won't buy a better monitor with higher resolution because I'm not a heavy gamer, just casual gamer. Besides, gaming monitors are so expensive right now. I have a lot of things more important to pay in my life.

Gaming today with my GTX1080Ti, GTA V, The Division, The Witcher 3, I have a lotttt of FPS above 60. Notice that I have every single setting turned on.

  • GTA V, ULTRA, MSAA x8, Grass Very High, etc... (See photo attached)
  • The Witcher 3, ULTRA, NVIDIA HairWorks All x8, NVIDIA HBAO+, etc... (See photo attached)
  • The Division, ULTRA, NVIDIA HBAO+, SMAA 1x Ultra, NVIDIA HFTS, Sharpening 100%, Extra Streaming Distance 100%, Object Detail 100%, etc... (See photo attached)
Due to this crazy amount of FPS gained, should I exhange my GTX1080Ti for a GTX1080? (and US$ 410 money back), I just want to play everything on max settings.

Opinions?, advices?

Easy choice. The 1080 very easily will play anything 60+ fps @ 1080p. Take the 1080 and the cash.

It depends. What is your future planning for your computer?

If you plan to upgrade your monitor to 1440P / 4K in a year, i would say stick wtih your Ti.

If not, swapping with your friend would be a good choice.

Though can i ask? What went through your mind to even buy a 1080Ti when you're someone who has bills to pay yet splurge on a card that can power 3 X 1080P with no sweat on current games?

Keep the card and leave your rig alone. I can't count how many debates your parts choices has started.

I say sell the TI and use the cash to buy a decent 1080p gaming monitor. That on games like BF1 I average about 140fps on a 1080, so even with the gpu downgrade you'll still be pushing a lot of extra power.

That or, if he's cool with 60hz, a GTX1080 will run 1440p no problem. Plenty of decent 1440p monitors out there for under $400.

Don't keep the 1080ti, keep the 1080 and the cash for your next upgrade. It'll easily buy a high-midrange GPU in two years or so, which is probably the sensible upgrade path.

Or get a decent monitor, 1440p with nice refresh is doable.

You already have a 1080 Ti so don't get rid of it. It might seem like overkill at the moment, but the demands of new games just keeps increasing, so you'll be glad you've got it. Also, since you max everything out, you might find that the 1080 comes up short sometimes, even at 1080p.

If you really need that money, then perhaps do that exchange, but I don't recommend it.

When there is 410 bucks to be earned and still walk away with a 1080, which will do MORE than fine for all games unless you absolutely must SSAA x4 everything, tbh the 1080ti is really not worth all that, there is so much unused potential there it's not even funny. Remember: 1080/60. Not 120.

I honestly can't say the 1080 comes up short for 1080p. If anything, I'm CPU limited.

Sure, I see what you're saying, but this is my opinion, as it's not a hard and fast situation.

My view is that one can't have too much rendering power and he's already got the card, so a downgrade doesn't sound like a good idea to me unless he really needs the money.

keep the gtx 1080ti, save up for a cheap 1080p144hz monitor and get it.

Hi,
Besides, gaming monitors are so expensive right now. I have a lot of things more important to pay in my life.

just curious, why buy a GTX 1080ti in the first place? because it sure as hell so expensive as well

also, that cpu... could have gotten a i7-7700k as well

because I'm not a heavy gamer, just casual gamer.

Gaming today with my GTX1080Ti

I think you're the only casual gamer in the world who owns a 1080ti

My old 1080 cost me 699.99 + 15.14 shipping on June 28, 2016, I sold it 3 weeks later. On September 3, 2016 I bought a GTX1070 at $439.99 which I sold 2 weeks ago.
If I spent 699.99 + 15.14 on a GTX1080, why not for a Ti too?, and for the same price as the 1080?.

I bought the non-K processor because the price difference betweem H/Z motherboard and non-K/K processor was almost US$100, plus 3200MHz memory ram and a good AIO, the total was US$849, instead of US$605 of my recent components.
I used the difference to buy the Samsung 960 EVO.

I play at 1080p and I doubt that you can tell the difference in FPS while gaming betweem the K processor and non-K.

All that money to have 8-10 FPS increase?, counting that you need to know how to OC well your processor?, no thanks...

While gaming my CPU is at 43% so, I have plenty of power so far.

It seems to me that you have a deep wallet..... Keep the 1080Ti and just buy a nice expensive monitor for it and enjoy your hardware for several years.

Gaming monitors are expensive for me.
Besides, 2k of resolution makes content to be small on the screen, I tested one before and I can barely see the letters.

With my old GTX1080 and MSAA X8 on GTA V, I saw many times FPS decreasing under 60. I thought that with the Ti this is not gonna happend and I was right.
But now, having an expensive GPU for 1080p is making me cry.
Maybe exchange it and receive the money back?.
I don't have plans to buy an expensive monitor.
