Exclude folders from McAfee real-time protection/scans

I want to exclude a set of folders from McAfee, as I have done with every other antivirus software I've used, but it seems that you can only exclude individual files and not entire folders. Does anyone know of a way to exclude folders? My Google searches only show results for VirusScan Enterprise, which I don't have.

Sounds like you might want to use a different solution fwir the free version is file only. I'd suggest trying something else anyways...hell I'd even use MSE over McAfee. AVG, Malwarebytes (free (manual scan), or premium), Avast, Kaspersky, and a handful of others are options if you haven't tried them. I'm sure at least some of them have folder exclusion and should suffice for your AV and malware needs.

I personally use MSE (7) or Defender (8/10 - pretty damn good honestly) + Malwarebytes Premium. They seem to offset each other well and I don't notice any issues from them. I can do folder exclusions in both solutions.

The last decent product I used from McAfee was their discontinued email filtering and encryption service, worked well and was very reliable. Haven't trusted their AV in years...long term bias against their software I suppose. But in this case, seems you will have to get the version you don't have if you want the feature you seek. Might be worth looking at more sources...or just get something else.

McAfee VirusScan Plus. I managed to find a single thread on the McAfee forum that directly asked the question "Can you exclude folders", and a moderator said "That's a feature that has been requested for years, but the company don't want to do it because they consider it too big a security risk." I guess that answers my question.
