well, i have some info here, seems this has happened to me twice, explorer.exe crashed twice, but i do have a file there that states under debugging about a .txt

i also have a DMP file here, just looking for someone who knows how to debug, The .txt points to a MSVCR80.dll

i did a search and this is what it came up with, that TXT says something about app compatibility, unsure if its because the oS is trying to access those DLLs which appear the same or what, This is a Fresh OS that has been patched properly, and also protected, just unsure why this is occurring as i have not been to any websites that could put crap on this machine.

Just need help deciphering the .txt and the dmp file.

could be hardware crapping out, unstsable OC/ram and so on. your specs say its heavily OC'd and its 'old' so the components could be wearing out with age.

i do actually hear regular reports of people saying removing Xfire fixing their problems. its usually a new one every time.

I suggest removing Xfire and seeing if it goes away, and if not try a few other things (selective boot, safe mode, etc - just narrow down whats causing it)

well explorer crashed more times after installing xfire again, so i reinstalled everything. Lastnight i was chatting up with FordGT on WindowsLiveMessenger and telling him what happened then i jinxed myself, explorer.exe crashed again. This time i have a Dr Watson Log n everything, last few things i installed were MSN and Xfire Messengers, but after that crash i told Ford GT, he said to possibly grab .net 2.0 SP1 (unsure if its included in SP3). I installed pidgin last night and installed .net 2.0 Sp1 and removed WLM. So im really unsure what the cause of the crash was.

I do have some files i can upload. btw .evt is a event viewer log. look at the 2 red X conditions.

Also if this helps i do have Catalyst Hotfix 8.7 installed with a 1950 Pro, i had the same apps before with the Cat 8.5s and nothing like this occurred before.

well my advice would be to burn your only copy of Xfire onto a CD, then snap that CD into a million pieces and set it alight.

Your problem lies with xfire - take it up with the devs for the program.

I'm blaming Xfire because i hear of problems with it all the time. Every few months someone comes up to me with crashing problems and errors, and usually Xfire is the culprit - that or a broken antivirus (nod32 comes up fairly commonly there, particularly cracked versions)

try disabling it for now and see if that helps - the reason i moved from nod32 to kaspersky was actually related to it crashing explorer.exe on one of my systems.

another option would be to add exclusions for MSN and xfire into AMON and IMON in nod32.

edit: you could also add explorer.exe, although i'm unsure if that would compromise security.

im really thinking about going back to install XP with just SP2 only and the updates excluding SP3, and also go back to a known Good driver for this graphics card (Cat 8.5 hotfix), and back to a bios that i knew wasnt giving me any fits,(just to be sure it wasnt anything of those) i would go vista 32 but i have a few 16bit apps that i still use (Games Primarily) and lucky enough to find a patch for 1 for XP but none for vista.

well i reinstalled everything again, sans SP3, WLM and Xfire, so far so good, I also picked up WLM 8.1 (Actuall Install not friggin Autosetup like current build) So ill do a system backup (Restore) and see if i have any problems.
