Explorer.exe in Vista: Resource hog?

IDK if anyone else is experiencing this, but Explorer.exe in Vista (ultimate) is sucking down about 100% processor resources on one of my cores (50% total CPU utilization). I have absolutely no idea why. No indexing is going on, for all I know the computer is sitting idle. And I have no idea how to make it stop too. bah.

Any ideas?

p.s. explorer/aero works fine.

Even in XP when left idle does the same, perhaps its cleaning up or something, i am not sure myself.

so thats normal? strange... it annoys the heck out of me.

Also, I noticed Vista does some massive hdd shredding after i delete massive files/ uninstall stuff. Is that also normal? its like its defragging or something, i really don't know.

if you couldn't tell already, i'm really new to this whole vista thing and i'm freaking out over every little thing. heh.

Vista is still NEW... not all the bugs are worked out yet, I tried Ultimate, and it stinks. I'm sticking with XP Pro until late 2007...

Meh, i dont know myself, but surely the HDD activity light is blinking, and when i move the mouse it stops...weird.

KTR: XP does the same thing, i'm pretty sure its defragging.

Under XP, i used cacheman to disable it, my vista install i just use O&O defrag set as the main defrag util, and disable all scheduling. I hate when the system does things like that... can slow down things such as network transfers.

I agree, Vista likes to use that HDD. My single core Athlon usually idles at 0% in Vista though.

I think that it's Vista's backup feature, to make sure you can undo the delete if you accidentally deleted, say, your tax records

As for explorer.exe, I have no idea why it's eating all your processing power. It's probably some bug, or a feature that we have yet to discover. Like say, auto-download-spyware :laugh:

I disbaled all the servies I can using the Vista tweaks thread, but I guess Vista is jst gay for the moment.

Long as I can run Msn, iTunes, Firefox and BF2, I'm fairly happy.

A magazine I read somewhere/ news I posted a while ago. I dunno how you get to it, I just have a hunch that it's there. Personally, I haven't cared about/needed this backup feature enough to look into it.
