LOL, very true.
they don't care nor should they AMD isn't even a compeatitor they are quiters they threw in the towel and relegated them selves to being "good enough" a claim witch many people dispute because particularly on the cpu side its not hard to find a example of a AMD chip getting swiftly trounced in pretty much every benchmark

both nvidia and intel are sitting on tech thats multiple generations ahead of anything AMD has coming down the pipe and amd knows it so they stay the fuck out of everyone's way and take what they can get

I'd ditch what you're smoking.

Your Avatar says it all frankly (AMD much).

Nice attitude there. Yes, my Avatar says I support AMD. I have a myriad of reasons for doing so which have nothing to do with the content of my post.

I'll stick to the context of this thread if you will. :)

OP the GTX 970 was a bargain but the GTX 980 doesn't fit with your claim of setting the price unusually low.

Well, it is cheaper than their previous flagship card, so I'd call that 'cheaper'.

not likely your topic is nothing but flame bait

No, it's actually my honest opinion about what nVidia is up to. If were trying to create a flame bait thread, I would've called it: "nVidia rips people off" and pointed out how they sold GTX670 $400 cards with 2GB of ram when Radeon 7950s were $300 with 3GB of ram, or how nVidia ignored masses of people with bad mobile GPUs and didn't compensate them, or how nVidia is trying to lock people into their tech, etc., but that's NOT what I said, now, is it?

980's not the flag ship card don't be silly they where launched to to bin-out maxwell
the 980TI/990 will be the true flag ship for nvidia this round
and nobody really cares what your opinion is of nvidia
the bottom line is that on both the hardware and software from the nvidia cards are superior
do they gouge a bit ? hell yes do I care that they do NOPE you get what you pay for
when you are on top you can do whatever the fuck you want
blame AMD for throwing in the towel and giving up

Yes it outperforms the previous generation's flagship GPU but the GTX 980 is not the Maxwell Flagship card. Let's dig into this a little bit. Go back one generation and have a look. When the GTX 680 GK104 came out it had 1536 shaders. It was the predecessor to the GTX 980 GM104. If the GTX 680 was the Kepler Flagship then what would you call the GTX 780 Ti GK 110 with 2880 shaders? A refresh? No the GTX 780 Ti was the true Kepler flagship.

I like AMD and all - hell, got two of their cards right now AND one of their CPUs - but I will be perfectly honest, one of the only reasons I got the AMD stuff I have is because they were cheap and I couldn't afford Intel or NVIDIA at the time. That's changed a bit now and I'm most likely going to switch to an Intel CPU - keeping the 280x I just bought, of course.

In other news, this thread just screams flame war. :shadedshu:

Seems like an attempt of click bait too me.

No, I actually really suddenly had this idea strike like a lightning bolt when I read that article in kitguru:

http://www.kitguru.net/gaming/devel...ently-directx-12-wont-be-coming-to-windows-7/

Honest!

Nvidia chose to stay on 28nm instead of wait/hope for 20nm (or 16 eventually) and stuck with an improved 28nm GPU which showed more of an improvement in the realm of power efficiency. It was a choice they made to sell cards before the competition which is nothing out of the ordinary from my perspective...

This was just what I initially thought. But when I saw how crappily Assasin's Creed was running on PC, read that it was mostly due to the massive number of draw calls, and then read that article on kitguru about DX12 not coming to Windows 7, I put 2 and 2 together. It's a clever move, don't get me wrong. It's just that it smells of sneakiness to me. Sneakiness meaning that nVidia very specifically wanted to get new cards out the door before certain things became public, rather than just business as usual. They've been perfectly happy to wait for their turn at the TSM fabs for the last 4 generations, so I was wondering what put a firecracker under their ass and made them want to rush the next gen out at the same 28nm as their last two.

This was a plausible theory, that's all. If you've already just bought a GTX970 or 980 and THEN you hear that you'll have to upgrade your Windows from 7 to play game x,y,z if you have an nVidia card, but not if you have an AMD card, well, it's too late to factor that in to your decision, that's all.

amd are crap if I didn't get this 7970 for 120.00 bucks I would have went with a gtx 770...
Mantle is Hype nothing more its really not all the great if you take the time to read there sdk

So you would have gone for a more expensive 2GB card that's essentially the same speed as a 3GB card, just because it's green? Not sure if serious?

they made a 4GB gtx 770
my choices where
GTX 770 4GB for 225.00
7970 3GB for 120.00
I took the cheaper card and bought a ssd

If AMD were 'throwing in the towel', they wouldn't have Jim Keller designing the K12 and Raja Koduri at the helm of their GPU divsion now, would they?

they made a 4GB gtx 770
not sure if flame baiting or fanboy...

4GB GTX770 was about $100 more expensive.

Not flame baiting or fanboy... pointing out logic.

I have always said if nvida/intel gave 2 fucks about amd they would price them out of existence
if they dropped the 970 to say ~250.00
if intel dropped the price of the 4670k to ~180.00
it would be over for AMD they would be kaput inside a year there overhead and costs are continuous bleeding of money it would be a disaster

Intel already tried that. They cheated on benchmarks and paid off customers not to use AMD, and threatened to cut off their supply of Intel chips if they didn't.

I'd say that qualifies as 'giving a fuck' about AMD. Intel just blew threw $1 billion trying to dump tablet chips in that market to compete against ARM-based chips there:

http://www.cnet.com/news/intel-to-combine-pc-unit-with-struggling-mobile-chip-division/

Even Intel can't keep throwing away billions forever to 'compete'.

dude give it a rest nobody cares about shit intel did 10 years ago AMD are guilty of the same shit on the gpu side of things again when you own the market you are entitled todo whatever you want the only one at fault is amd for not keeping up with the competition
I really couldn't give two fucks about corporate policy
performance is king so are results

All true, but remember, it's not a forgone conclusion that the largest shader number version initially planned for a chip is practically produce-able. There are many factors which can pre-empt a full-shader version ever seeing the light of day.

Truth is that AMD unfortunately are also-rans in GPUs and CPUs and that's bad for competition. I don't think nvidia need any convoluted strategic ploys to stay ahead of AMD.

No, it's actually my honest opinion about what nVidia is up to. If were trying to create a flame bait thread, I would've called it: "nVidia rips people off"

So, "exposing Nvidia's latest ploy" doesn't directly infer dirty tactics by use of 'expose' and 'ploy'. Your title is exactly what people have called it. Your thread title is nothing more than a one sided rant. A measured and composed title would have been
"With DX12 Win10 only, are Nvidia trying to lure people away from Mantle's benefits?"

I agree with OP

I think the OP is just mad that AMD doesn't have anything to counter Nvidia Maxwell right now. Don't worry im sure they have something, itll probably keep you warm during the winter too.

I think the OP is just mad that AMD doesn't have anything to counter Nvidia Maxwell right now. Don't worry im sure they have something, itll probably keep you warm during the winter too.

I don't see any reason for AMD to have to. For what, 5K? ROFL.

The market is STAGNANT. Nvidia simply made a new GPU, that lowered power consumption due to efficiency, on the same node. Sounds like TSMC fixed their toolset, to me, and nothing else. AMD will bring something relevant...when it's actually needed. Until then, they keep selling what they got, like with their CPUs, until something substantially affects their sales, and they have inventory piling up, which isn't likely to happen any time soon.

This whole thread seems to be FILLED with armchair comments, by people that don't understand business, nor the silicon market as it stand right now... which is a stand-still.

And your point is....that it works as it should?

nothing wrong with that keeps my feet warm
the market may be a stand still but as you know AMD just doesn't have the fabs globalfoundries its a few steps behind TSMC they need to get on 20NM across the board not just on the gpu side
the 3xx will launch by next summer
