I'm normally with you in hating games that pump out the same thing year after year, especially with sports games that change very little and only update rosters and stuff like that.

However, I don't feel this is the case with F1 2011. F1 2010 looks nice, but there were some real improvements that needed to be made. The AI was too robotic feeling, and the car physics just was way to arcadish. The underlying engine upgrade focusses more on these parts of the game, and they really do need improving.

Now, we just need a decent Nascar game and I'll be happy...

well thats my point, with codemasters, they pump out new games every year tie it to games for windows live which is dead, and never seem to get it right no matter how many releases they make

Dirt -> Dirt 2 they did some nice work here in terms of optimization and fluid gameplay but they also made Dirt 2 a title that could take home the award for most douchebaggery in the first 5 mins of starting a game lol

Dirt 2 -> Dirt 3 douchbaggery got toned down DLC got shoved out the door to an extreme at a ridiculous rate

F1 2010, as you pointed out it looked good but had some flaws,

they've now focused on underlying problems how much you want to bet F1 2011 follows Dirt 3 format of expensive mass produced DLC in place of what should be real content, im not impressed, it looks better then it did, but ive always been under the impression that Codemasters tends to get close but never gets the cigar lol

other companies produce far better games in the same genre's or use to just Codemasters is all we get on the PC side of things.

on a side note id like to see nascar make a return to PC with all the bells and whistles, with the kind of depth that Gran Turismo has in terms of tweaking, with the control and handling that is a mix of Forza and Gran Turismo *really depends on the race mode some modes feel right while others dont depending on the title* if they brought those products to PC codemasters would be in some hot water.

instead we just get need for speed and Burnout Paradise which feels weak compared to previous entries in the series. Kinda just leaves me here to accept what Codemasters pumps out. and smile as i eat the shit sandwich.

I've heard 2010 has some huge issues, some so bad that people said the game was absolute garbage. And I believe these issues will be fixed in 2011. I'm not sure what they were, but I seen a good amount of posts on it, enough that made me decide to just wait.

How much aside from a graphics update can you possibly change from year to year in a sports game? It's not like the rules are likely to change. But I think updated physics is something that all games need better of. Read "more realistic"..

It's not like the rules are likely to change

This is Formula 1, they make new changes every year and thus ruining it every year (DRS, KERS, some word is about V6 turbo engines and some other silly and pointless rules).

I won't comment on the game much since this is Codemasters, I just hope that it won't be that much of an arcade game as the 2010.

I like company's that make improvements to games and not a totally new game and here's why.

NWN 1 great game but NWN2 fail
Ghost Recon Great game Graw1\2 fail
Dragon Age 1 yet another great game Dragon Age 2 fail.
Mass Effect great game Mass effect 2 fail
AVP another great game but the last one sucked.
Marrowind Great game Oblivion no so great

List goes on, although i did like some of the second releases they were no way better or even close in some cases. However i do agree that releasing new ones every year is pure BS but they do have to make money so i can understand that and it's as simple as don't buy it until you think they have made enough updates to it.

This is Formula 1, they make new changes every year and thus ruining it every year (DRS, KERS, some word is about V6 turbo engines and some other silly and pointless rules).

F1 rules is what spoiled the real thing and the games for me so don't bother at all with it now. As for Nascar i have no reason to make my self dizzy.

I personally can't wait to check it out, but I do agree with crazyeyes that Codemaster's DLC plan sucked for Dirt 3. Please don't give me half a game, then release the other half in multiple $5 DLC packs week after week. I am a huge F1 fan though, so any game released about it would interest me.

As this years F1 cars had incedibly complicated stearing wheels thanks to the new featues

F1 steering wheel this year

imagine how complicated it's going to be trying to do all those things if they ever do make the game accurate...

I know, I've been extremely disappointed with the Nascar games for years. EA just kind of gave up at the end when they knew the contract was about to expire, and Activision made a decent attempt but they need a lot of work still, but that is to expected when you are building a racing game from the ground up. And with Nascar switching to fuel injection in 2012 that should have a big affect on racing, and the game as well.

When I want some NASCAR action I fire up Nascar Racing 2003 Season, the game is really old but IMO it's the best NASCAR simulation.
I remember doing full races with force feedback set to max, I couldn't feel my right arm anymore lol

I must have dream I wrote it, but i was actually referring to NHL/FIFA and the like. Completely unrelated to thread, so just disregard :)

But to comment on F1, yeah, I don't follow it, but I heard they are adding more engine restrictions this year. What I know of F1 is the stuff Top Gear mentions basically.

As long as they don't put in the sexy gals parading in the stands showing their assets like I see on tv, I won't jump on the bandwagon.

I hope 2011 doesn't have as many problems as 2010. I'M A HUGE racing fan and to me 2010 was fun, but disappointing. to easy and i had many bugs.
I want the Safety car where I still have control of the car during caution so if I drive past it i get flagged.

I too spent way too much time playing F1 2010, sure it was more of an arcade game than a sim, but if you go into it with that perspective the game is fine.

I'm hoping 2011 will be more sim-like, but... c'mon... its code"masters" :(
