Wow, awesome new announcements. I've update the OP some. I'll added the new games soon. All the games on the leaked box are confirmed. I don't know how to feel about the cell shaded Jurassic World Aftermath game.. I was really hoping for a life-like game/world, but it is a standalone headset.

Oculus link is coming at the first of the year with 90hz officially. YouTubers have already confirmed that it works now with Link just not 90hz yet. The current WINMOvr inserts for the old Quest work with Quest 2. That confirms the lenses are the same, but because they are closer to your eyes the FOV is larger expecially users with a smaller IPD. It's confirmed that it has 3 ipd adjustments that cover 58 to 72mm ipd range. The 3 settings are 58mm, 63mm, and 68mm. Each range covers a range of the lenses.

With Oculus link, I assume you can play your SteamVR library on the Quest?

$299 is nice. I am seriously thinking of buying one set just for workout. But of course it must have PCVR support.

They are saying that it's better than Rift S with the better controller, screens, and 90hz. I'm glad you said something about workout because the new added feature where they can keep up with how many calories you burn in each game looks great. It's called Oculus move. It looks like most of the VR youtube guys have had it since last week. I just checked out Virtual Reality Oasis. He showed how easy it is to upgrade the strap with the elite strap. It's going to be awesome for the 3D printing community. I can't wait to get mine and print something.

@Mindweaver

Can you explain the Oculus Link stuff? I am a bit confused. So using the link, the GPU in the PC does the heavy lifting while the Qualcom chip in the headset just do decoding? Then again I keep hearing that the Qualcom chip decoding has a capped rate?

The thing is I already have a huge SteamVR library and I really do not want to repurchase everything.

Yeah, that's what's going on. I don't think the chip has a capped rate. It's the cable which is around 1.7gb/s. Carmack said on his keynote that they are still working on the Link Quality and it will get better. I think wirelessly will be the way to go, but it will have its downside but the freedom will out weight it. There is already a lot of people that use Virtual Desktop for wireless streaming to the Quest and love it. It's only going to get better when FB officially does it with there much better compression rate. If you get the time then watch Carmack's keynote. He said that link is really good but they still have a little ways to go before it's better than wired hmd's like Rift S, Index, etc... I expect it to be better than Rift S by next year once they have 90hz added for everything. He does like the idea of having a standard low-end hmd and a pro high-end hmd, but it won't happen this time around. I think I'm going the wireless route and not dealing with the cable at all.

I'd consider one of these for steam VR

It should be great. I can't wait to see some reviews.

If that happens I could see getting the Oculus Quest 2 for ~$299 USD. Wireless PC VR game play would be the thing that gets my interest.

Until then I'm still OK with the original Oculus Quest.

With my OG Vive, I dont have much motivation in upgrading right now. Yes the Quest2 would be a big update in resolution. Then again it is not 100% 90Hz yet as you said. Going from an already 90Hz all time HMD I have no incentives to buy. Also there is this ongoing optimization for Link to play PCVR stuff.

Wireless is priceless. I agree. So is high refresh rate and high resolution. For me it looks like a 3 choose 2 situation for now. For Valve Index you get great resolution and high refresh rate but it is not wireless. For Quest 2, it is wireless and high resolution with refresh rate as lack luster.

I guess for now I will stick with my OG Vive until a true upgrade comes out. Or if I get some extra cash on hand I might just get the 64GB Quest 2 for on-the-go Beat Saber only HMD.

Yeah if you already have the Quest then keep it and upgrade later, but even Norm from tested said the upgrade from Quest to Quest 2 is worth it and FB is losing money on the hardware for $299.

I said the same thing about my Vive and honestly wasn't going to get a Rift S because of 80hz and a single screen. I just lucked out at best buy one day and had some credits that I was going to lose if I didn't use it. I totally expected to bring it back within the 15 days and use the credits on something else, but the resolution bump was too great. I don't really notice the 80hz either plus tracking is great and the controllers are way better than the wands for games like Alyx. The only game I prefer the Vive over the rift S is Beat Saber after I 3d printed CV1 like headphone adapters for $15 Koss headphones. They sound as good as the Deluxe audio strap. I couldn't go back to the Vive resolution and the god rays are pretty much gone with no screen door on the Rift S. Watching movies in Bigscreen looks amazing compared to the Vive. I'm seeing Rift S's popping up on FB Marketplace for $225 which is great.

I honestly wouldn't mind having an original Vive. Its a good thing to have and makes the upgrade to a Valve Index easier and cheaper. One would only need to spend ~$500 USD for the Index HMD itself and you're good to go.

If it were a choice between the Index for ~$500 and the Quest 2for ~$299 I think it would be an exceedingly tough choice,.......or at least it would be for me.

As I said in another thread, my Son's birthday is coming up (as well as Christmas) and a PS5 is what he wants. However demand is high and availability is low. Pre-orders are sold out everywhere I look. So maybe an Oculus Quest would be a worthwhile consolation gift.
