Failed Flash Bricked GPU, tried all available bios

The GPU is a Radeon XFX 280X, one day my computer crashed and the GPU wasn't displaying video any more, not even booting the computer. Desperate and stupid, I tried to flash it to the latest bios I found here on TPU with the Onboard ideo, didn't solved it. I thought it was dead.

5 months later I cleared the CMOS and tried the GPU once again, and it suddenly worked, (I have no idea why) but Windows and the motherboard didn't detected the GPU properly, only showing a ATI Video Card Adapter.

I LOST MY BACKUP BIOS DUE TO A DEAD HARD DRIVE.

So I tried every XFX 280X bios available on TPU (10 in total) and none made the Bios or Windows detect it properly (Showing only ATI Adapter). When I try to install a AMD driver, the computer crashes in the middle of the installation.

I'm out of ideas, help meee. There is no bios switch thing on this model.

@XFXSupport Maybe you can spread some love in this thread

@EliasDinho -- Since youve tried every bios in the database. Please be patient till XFXSupport responds to this thread. I doubt anyone can help you further unless a member has the exact same card as you.
It would be helpful if you could post a big picture of the front and back of the card just to see if any TPU members might have the same card lying around.

Sounds like more of a driver install issue than vBIOS. Which can be equally as tricky to solve(if not more so). I've been having a real hard time myself lately getting the drivers for my 280X installed on Windows 7. Or rather the drivers I want to have installed. I'm running older drivers for better benchmark scores. But for some damn reason they're being a MAJOR PITA to install these days(on Windows 7 anyway). I'm experiencing the crash in the middle of driver installs too. But usually the drivers still get partially installed when that happens. Enough that they're still detected correctly as the version they're supposed to be. But almost always missing some features. And sometimes totally broke to the point that I have to pull out my bag of tricks just to get them fully uninstalled. So I can start from scratch again.

Anyhow, one thing that's been working for me, to some extent, is to install the drivers through Device Manager. You might try that, just to see if it makes any difference. If that don't work you might want to wipe every thing down to nothing and start from scratch(like I eluded to). You need to delete the AMD folder from C:, and uninstall the device in Device Manager. Then reboot and let it install default drivers. Then try installing the specific drivers you want to run.

I don't know. Just some things I would try. May not be of any use to you. But that's what I'd be doing to try and get it to work.

In the Device Manager, only the onboard show on Display Adapters, I guess that the GPU might be a "Video Controller" or a "Unknown Device" on Other Devices.

It crashes when I request to update the "Video Controller" trough the manager .

On the MB bios, it says ATI VGA Controller in the PCIE slot.

EDIT: now that I tried to update that "Video Controller" on Other Devices trough the Device Manager, it crashed and after reboot freeze on a black screen when I'm loading Windows

EDIT 2: I can definitely boot to windows normally with the GPU, but I can't install the driver due to crash e than freeze in windows loading screen

Seems to be a driver issue.

After trying a 2016 driver, it appeared only as "Microsoft Display Adapter" or something, GPUZ detected the card properly now, but the driver still not working.

Updating this "Microsoft Display Adapter" is not possible, the Manager says it is already updated.

I don't know how to get this driver thing right. Through the Device Manager it crashes, through the latest AMD setup it crashes, through an older driver it doesn't work...

The card appears to be working, but using the basic drivers.
Perhaps placing it in another X16 slot on the Motherboard will help, or reseating it in the current slot.
You wont be able to update drivers through Device Manager until the card appears there, it should show as an ATI adapter using basic display drivers.
It could be listed under hidden devices.
As an afterthought, ensure power is connected as required and your PSU is up to the task.

Did you clean the old drivers off before installing the new ones with something like Driver sweeper

Sorry all I've been busy just Livin Life I'll get on it in the moment start doing some analysis

What motherboard do you have?

First thing, learn to get device manager to show non present devices. Follow directions on link below and post picture of device manager with monitor or graphics card in the tree on here. Lets see if we can find a gpu oddity.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff184583.aspx

This will be updated continously.

2 Get latest motherboard chipset drivers from chipset maker or motherboard website. Do not install any gpu or chipset drivers yet.

Depending on OS version you have get gpu drivers here

Windows 7 64 and 32 bit

https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 7 - 64

https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 7 - 32

Windows 10 64 and 32 bit
https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 10 - 64

https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop?os=Windows 10 - 32

Please do note that if you are using an AMD chipset based motherboard you will find the chipset driver under optional downloads.

If using Intel, refer to intels website for chipset.

3 Grab display driver uninstaller from here. Read directions thoroughly and follow them. Remove gpu drivers.
Check dev mgr after running ddu twice

https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1158

4 back up current gpu bios then flash the Boost Bios below.

Use my links in my signature to flash correctly.

So far this is the only bios that says boost.

https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/163096/163096

Im gonna keep on looking, your gpu is 1000/1500 fyi.

This bios says tdf v2.3
https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/198702/198702

Both Bios files are capable of auto detect ram along with 2 hynix and elpedia ram.

1 way to determine if your card supports the bios files is to remove the hsf and look at ram chips, if their numbers match in the bios file, you may have very well fixed your problem.

So, I tried switching the GPU from the PCIE2 to PCIE1 and now but system won't boot, no beeps, nothing, everything seems to be powered up (HD and Fans spinning), but no display, no beep, nothing.

I cleared the CMOS on the jumper once again, but nothing... I'm gonna try to replace the mb battery, but i have to buy one.

My gpu was bricked, now my system won't even get to the bios. Infinite troubleshooting here...

Do you have the monitor hooked up to the igp?

I'm mounting without the GPU, so with the monitor hooked to the MB. Even, i'm not being able to boot, and no beeping too. Stripped everything, remaining only CPU, PSU and RAM on the Mobo. Still won't boot, hold on so I troubleshoot this and find out what is failing. Hope nothing is fried.

Put the card back in the original slot, keep monitor hooked up to igp, ensure psu is hooked up to gpu too...
