I recently bought a fake gtx 1050 ti from aliexpress, which is actually a gts 450, according to the gpu-z, I installed the drivers the video quality improved and I was able to run games, but when I exceed the card's dedicated ram limit it it simply crashes and appears green and purple dots, and sometimes it comes back, other times I have to restart the pc, in my case I installed the most updated drivers recommended for fake cards, even so it was not, it is recognized in windows as gtx 1050 ti.

So? What's the issue?

Obviously they fiddled with the BIOS to make the RAM appear larger than it actually is.

Best solution in this case is to not buy the card at all. How much did it cost? $50? $20? Was it worth it?

We have too many such threads on here, and I'm sorry to tell you but I haven't seen ONE thread where the person got their card working as if it were a genuine 450.

This video card I paid $20 from a friend who couldn't install it, before I had an RV 570 on my pc that didn't play anything, not even HD video.

The real problem is when running games, I usually play 1 game on ROBLOX (yes, ROBLOX) called phantom forces, a shooting game, well done and with shaders, I like to set the graphics to maximum and the game configuration too , when I put it to the minimum, I can't see it right, but everything runs perfectly, now when I put it above 3/10, after 1 minute in the game it locks the screen and green and pink dots appear on the screen and it stays locked until I try to close by giving alt F4 pressing the windows key going into the task manager and closing manually, sometimes it doesn't work and I have to shut down the pc by force.

Well, it's obvious - the card is trying to allocate more RAM than there is physically present on the PCB. So the game has artifacts and it crashes.

Is there any way to put her real ram so the card doesn't allocate more than the card has?

BIOS flashing with a GTS 450 BIOS, but it rarely works because more than one thing is wrong with the card.

Told you already - I haven't seen ONE instance where the poster got the card working properly.

I was looking for some article about capping the video card's dedicated ram, but I just found it about onboard videos.

Is there any way I can take the BIOS it's in now, tweak it, and reduce the ram, but keeping everything else?

it would take a lot of effort w/steep learning curve to try to fix it, w/no guarantees.

first thing is tear down the card to find any/everything that would ID it. the vram will help, google part numbers, if its gddr3 that only leave about 4 or so cards out of 94 here in the database.

flashing shouldn't too difficult- fermis weren't locked down like to today, but having flashed a bunch of maxwell cards, finding the right version of NVflash can be a task within itself. as mantioned ther might be something wrong - those green/purple dots i've seen when the vram is going bad, too hot or OCed too much.

good luck, you'll need it.

Yeah, the criminals sabotage the cards to make sure that they can't be used properly no matter what one does. So nasty and vindictive, but not surprising.

@Hero240407 the card you bought was sold to you fraudulently, so get your money back from the seller if you can. The more this happens to them, the less they'll do it.

Then save up until you can afford a bottom tier card like a real 1050 or 1050 Ti.
Even if you do save up say $100, it's a terrible time to be shopping for cards. Prices are easily 3-5x of what they should be.

So nasty and vindictive, but not surprising.
I have a suspicion that these are bad cards that never ended up in the retail market or used cards that are cycled to death.
I always keep wondering - why Fermis? Why not later generations?

Aliexpress, are you surprised?
The victim in this case is not him but his friend, who bought the card for a low price and it turned out to be fake (like it should - middlemen have little margin when it comes to graphics cards - all the margin lies with the manufacturer).

Reflashing wouldn't work because the memory chips and their timings are different from those in actual GTS 450 cards, not saying it's impossible to do, but it'd require a good amount of tuning to get an original VBIOS to work. "It's complicated".

They probably have millions of chips already or manage to recycle them out of legitimate cards. The counterfeit industry makes billions every year selling stuff like this.

I've seen these cards for sale in stores and the price is close to what a real GT730 costs, all that kind of crap mostly ends up in third world countries like mine because most people can't pay for *actual* cards or are too unexperienced to know they're fake, I repair computers and the amount of shit-tier or fake hardware that's in somewhat new rigs is unbelievable, the most common are the "1000W" power supplies that are like 250W if you're lucky, followed by graphics cards and SSDs.
The rest is junk that end up at a landfill after 6 months: fake iPhones, headsets, consoles, joysticks, TVs and so on. There's so much of that the scrapyards and landfills can't take anymore and end up burning it. I volunteer at a recycling plant and 80% of what we get goes to a landfill, only certain plastics and metals are useful, I manage to rescue certain appliances that aren't beyond repair and donate/resell them.

What about the etching on the GPU chip? That'll help narrow down which exact card it is. Because even if you know it's a GTS 450, it helps to be certain which variant of it.
