Fallout 3 DLC, Mod Tools Detailed and Dated

Developer Bethesda today revealed the first details of the "substantial" PC and Xbox 360-exclusive downloadable content for Fallout 3, including an episode that takes place after the main story concludes, and issued word of a mod kit for PC users.
The mod toolset, dubbed G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), will arrive as a free download for PC users in December. "Users can create, modify, and edit any data for use with Fallout 3, from building landscapes, towns, and locations to writing dialogue, creating characters, weapons, creatures, and more," wrote Bethesda.

Three pieces of game-expanding downloadable content were announced for PC and Xbox 360 users, set to arrive on a monthly basis beginning in January. No price point was specified, though Bethesda offered the following descriptions:

Operation: Anchorage
Enter a military simulation and fight in one of the greatest battles of the Fallout universe - the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska from its Chinese Communist invaders. An action-packed battle scheduled for release in January.

The Pitt
Journey to the industrial raider town called The Pitt, located in the remains of Pittsburgh. Choose your side. Scheduled for release in February.

Broken Steel
Join the ranks of the Brotherhood of Steel and rid the Capital Wasteland of the Enclave remnants once and for all. Continues the adventure past the main quest. Scheduled for release in March.

Launched October 28 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the post-apocalyptic RPG shipped 4.7 million units and brought in over $300 million during its first week at retail. In addition to the DLC, Bethesda is currently working on a patch.

Except for the assault on The Capital Building, it never really felt like war. It felt more like stumbling into a crowd of people/things that are just in my way. XD

I do hope the Alaska pack is more like The Capital Building siege.

Come to think of it, the Jefferson Memorial really didn't feel like it was under siege when it was supposedly under siege too. Hmm...

Dammit, I want Chinese/Ghouls coming out of the wood work!


Edit: Oh, Raven Rock felt like a siege too but Enclave < Super Mutants. Super Mutants are tough to bring down.

And that reminds me of another thing. I don't remember where it is mentioned (Three Dog?) but they keep saying that Super Mutants are over running D.C. for an unknown reason (don't know where they come from either). It would be fun to figure out what that something is and deal with it. That could be the skeleton of the sequel or expansion (like Shivering Isles to Oblivion)...

I have been exploring for a while and have not even touched on all the cool stuff to find. I walked clear across the map diagonally and found cool things, but I keep having to resupply with more ammo and stimpaks.

New Fallout 3 DLC Screenshots, Details: 4-5 Hours of Gameplay for $10

The first downloadable content for Bethesda's Fallout 3 should provide about "four or five hours" of gameplay, and will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10) when it is released in January, according to developer Bethesda.
The Operation: Anchorage DLC will see Fallout survivors participating in the historical liberation of Anchorage from the Chinese Red Army by way of a virtual reality simulator.

"Operation: Anchorage focuses mainly on a combat/stealth path," said Bethesda DLC producer Jeff Gardiner to IGN. Gardiner noted that the pack will include new weapons, armor, achievements, and a "Covert Ops" perk.


"The player will have to use a lot of their standard combat skills, along with several new tools that will only be available in the downloadable content," he added. "These include interactive Strike Teams under the player's command and unique armor, weapons, and other exotic gadgets."
Gardiner also revealed a few details of the second and third packs, planned for February and March releases, respectively.

The second pack, titled The Pitt, will be set in Pittsburg, which apparently escaped nuclear annihilation.

"While Pittsburgh wasn't directly hit in the nuclear onslaught, it's still had years of decay. The surrounding water is also heavily irradiated, which tends to have an effect on those that live near it," said Gardiner.

Gardiner also revealed that the third DLC pack, Broken Steel, will increase the game's overall level cap. Broken Steel will also add new monsters and perks, and is set to allow players to continue exploring the wasteland after its completion.

I just got some screens and info for the new DLC "The Pitt".

Developer Bethesda has just revealed the first three screenshots from its second downloadable Fallout 3 expansion, The Pitt. Allowing PC and Xbox 360 owners to explore post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh, the premium-priced download hits in March.

In addition, a summary of the expansion's story and new details were provided:
The Pitt opens with a desperate radio message, and a meeting with its sender, an escaped slave named Wernher. Wernher claims that the leader of "The Pitt" has created a cure for mutations... and he needs you to go in and retrieve it. From there, the player can proceed in a number of ways, in true Fallout 3 style. Do you fight your way in, or disguise yourself as a slave? Ally with the slaves, or join their Raider overlords? The Pitt is very morally ambiguous - there's no real right or wrong, just choices to be made, sides to be chosen, and a mystery that could send shockwaves throughout the entire Wasteland.

I was through it in a few hours and that wasn't a try-to-beat-it-as-fast-as-you-can run. I completed all I saw there was to complete. It seems like it took 3 or 4 hours on Normal.

The one i'm looking forward is that Broken Steel, that changes the ending so we can continue playing. I enjoyed Operation Anchorage, but left me wanting more.
