Having no extra money to buy any decent GPU right now. :(

The update was what caused me to intiate refund. Before the update I was getting constant forced reprojection due to very poor FPS (around 25~30). After the update I was getting 11~15 FPS. The SteamVR frame time bar was basically chunks of red with tiny bit of green(good) frame times.

As of today AMD still haven't implement Async Reprojection on Fury/X, which does not help the case one bit.

Pls enjoy the game for me folks! Hopefully I can get to afford a decent non-AMD GPU next year to play FO4VR

EDIT: I am glad my fellow Fury/X/Nano owners have finally had enough with AMD's bullshit and decided to take some action.

Background: AMD promised Async Reprojection Support at start of 2017. With the latest 17.12.1 driver release it is still not supported on Fury/X/Nano or 390X/390/380/290.

AMD brand them as "Premium VR experience" yet failed to implement even the most basic VR support to a large portion of their user base.

Sorry for thread hijacking. But Fallout4 VR is one of the last straw that bascially render our FuryX unusable in VR. As you have experienced, even GTX970 run Fallout4VR just fine.
I don't think it's a hijack, because it's good information for any amd user that reads this thread. I guess this is the "Official" Discussion FOVR4 thread. hehe But maybe add spoiler tags in the future. ;)

Do you have OpenVR-AdvancedSettings installed? If not then you need too. It will let you set SS in SteamVR. It has a lot more settings than just SS as well, like height adjustments. It's nice so if you want to play seated then change your height in the Advanced settings so your not the size of a dwarf.. lol Plus, I'm going to adjust it to my actual height.

You can find the ini file to set SS to 1.0 from 1.4 in your document - Documents/My Games/Fallout4VR/Fallout4Custom.ini. Open it using notepad then scroll to the bottom and add the code below.

Since it's running well at this time I'm going to avoid changing anything for now, plus I'm 5'8" anyway so I'm about the right height in the game, the floor is where I expect it to be, though everyone else seems tall. When the beta patch becomes production ready and Bethesda has worked out a few more of the issues I'll consider adding mods or other software packages.

Having no extra money to buy any decent GPU right now. :(

I don't know the value of your R9 Fury X or if you have any excess RAM to sell, but with the increased cost of RAM and value of crytocurrency your excess assets might be worth enough to get a video card that supports VR better. It's really too bad AMD doesn't have a 1070 level card that's available at a reasonable price.

So, I played for a couple more hours last night. I turned off taa, and turn on fxaa, but after trying it I turn taa back on and turned off fxaa, to many jaggy's (removed it from the ini file). I don't think fxaa works at all at the moment. Hopefully they add more Anti-Aliasing options.

After sorting everything I played for a good hour, and a half. I worked on increasing my level buy building stuff. Once, I reached level 8 I started wondering around outside of sanctuary. I went back to Concord and searched houses. I still can't get over how well my GTX 970 handles it. I know there's a lot of people having issues with 1080 and even 1080 ti's trying to max it out and use more than 1.0 SS, but for me it looks good enough with 1.0 SS or at least until I hope nvidia releases their new line of cards.

Everything looks really good inside building, and small spaces like underground. Speaking of underground.. Wow, there is a underground place in Concord that looks amazing. It's crazy and hard to explain how eery it feels. To me the way the light cascades over the water looks really good. I need to take some screen shoots, but they won't do it justice.. lol I ran into a dead Mirelurk at first, and it scared the shit out of me.. lol Then I was like oh it's dead.. So I kept searching, but near the other end I found another one. I started heading over to it to get the meat, but when I was about 8 feet from it I noticed that it was alive. It was sleeping or eating? So, I backed up, and found high ground for my attack. lol I switched from my 10mm pistol to my laser rifle. I then through a molotov at it.. but missed it and really pissed it off because it started coming after me at a high rate of speed!.. lol I jumped back, then shot him with one shot... Lucky for me, I hit him and it killed him. One shot one kill. lol I thought for sure it was going to kill me, but if it was my time, then it was my time.. (I needed to go to bed..) lol

I'm still amazed at all of the small touches like spider webs, and leaves blowing around that I missed in the pancake version. It's really immersive in VR. Again I can't wait to get home to play some more! :toast:

I'm tempted to buy this but not until I know for sure the game works fine with the Rift.

Oh man buy it! lol Oculus Rift users are only having issues with controls, because of the Stick vs the Vive's track pad. Here is a fix for that issue. Also, check out the mod list I posted in this thread. I've listed the mods I'm using below.

Robot Home Defence
EasyLockPicking
BrighterSettlementLights
BetterJunkFences
Vivid Fallout - All in One Best Choice
EasyHacking
LongerPowerLines
Unlimited Sprint.
CraftableAmmo
Salvagebeacons
Improved Maps with visible Roads

Can we get some screen shots?
I finally took some screen shots and wow, I didn't have any idea that my 970 is only running at 45fps.. I'm getting about 50% reprojection per The Advanced Settings. The crazy part is that I can not tell it in game. The game play is so smooth, but I am playing using teleportation. So, that maybe why I really don't feel it. I'm sure I'm in a small group, but I don't care for smooth locomotion.. lol If I could teleport in rl, I would.. lol I've actually thought about what would be the best place to teleport to in rl after a long play session.. lol It takes me a second and then realize I can't teleport in rl.. lol

Remember screenshots don't do it justice.. It looks a lot better in game!

It's crazy at how real the barb wire looks and the water. This guard tower is huge! I never realized it in the pancake version.

The water looks awesome.

This is the underground place in Concord that looks so awesome. It was really eerie and I swear I felt like I was really there.. lol The sounds really pull you in with the visuals.

I envy your 45FPS!

Many people really don't understand that in VR your GPU can either cut for 90FPS, or it drops down to half of that 45FPS. If it doesn't cut for 45FPS, it drops to powerpoint slides level. Async Reprojection will greatly help maintaining at least somewhat of playable frame time. This is probably why in most VR titles that my FuryX perform about the same level as 1060. GPUs lacking Async Reprojection needs to have twice the raw horsepower to push the same quality of frame time as GPUs that have Async Reprojection support.

Still mad AMD have not implemented this for more than half of its user base. Nvidia gave all Maxwell and Pascal GPUs Async Reprojection since Valve made it available.

Yea Async Reprojection works really well. Hopefully your GPU will get it soon, because the game is truly amazing in VR. You could probably sell your GPU then buy a GTX 1060 6gb. The GTX 1060 6gb is better than the GTX 970, but the 3gb version is a little slower than a 970 in VR. Some are reporting that turning off taa will increase performance. I may try it later today and take a few screen shots to see my fps.

In game I don't see the fps counter at all. I'm curious to see my fps after turning it off, but I can say without a doubt that I will not keep it turned off for the extra fps, because the jaggy's are bad.. lol I wished SMAA worked. I know we can't use MSAA due to FO 4 VR using Deferred Rendering, but some are saying fxaa works. I just couldn't tell when I enabled it. I may try turning off taa and then changing SS to 1.2 or something to see how it looks over taa and also see if my fps is higher or lower.

Very cool Mindweaver THANK YOU!
No problem buddy! I know steam has a beta build that let's you enable screenshots using a combo of the trigger and a button, but I had to opt out of the beta. So, I had to take my hmd off and hold and point it while pressing the F12 key on my keyboard.. lol

I'll start taking more to post as I progress in the game. :toast:
