That said, there is a funding campaign running right now for a board game turned video game that is family friendly: Flash Point: Fire Rescue. It supports local-coop (runs on one computer, each player needs a controller). You'll have to wait a long time for that one though assuming it gets funded.

As far as Local board style games, you could try Heroes of Might and Magic 2, that was a great game. Old but still fun. Runs in DosBox easily.
