would there be the possibility of an option/tweak to install the old nvidia cp instead?
last i checked, it remains functional even on newer versions of the driver itself

What W1zz said, the drivers are DCH only. The end.

Non-DCH Driver support ended long ago.

Can you verify that works? Just install (how?) the old cpl after driver install?

I'm having a hard time finding the legacy control panel files. Anyone know where they are located in the installer?

\474.14-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-whql\Display.Driver\NvCplSetupInt.exe

I'm not in the mood to test that.
I remember when they randomly issued DCH and legacy installers in 2019 and every time my old laptop freaked out with code 43

It seems I can just copy NVCPLUI.exe to the system and it will work? No supporting files needed?

i believe there's been a thread about it b4, i'll see if i can find it
as for the how, iirc just drop the executable into its location where it used to be until its removal

EDIT: found it. https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/...crosoft-store-only.288731/page-2#post-4710210
thats what this post says, yes (and possibly an accompanying dll file, but it doesn't specify which)

EDIT: contents of the nvcp directory (473.62, latest-ish [there's a security update that i didnt bother to install, iirc] 7 driver) attached

I tried it, it just works with the exe

Further down in the thread someone made an installer with a lot of files inside, so I'm wondering if I'm doing it wrong

After doing some more testing, running cPanel executable from a folder without install wasn't working on machines without Nvidia Panel previously installed
i'd assume that when you swap from standard > dch drivers, it just doesn't remove those dlls; in this case you tried it on an os that, at some point had standard drivers installed so you still had all those dlls required for the vanilla nvcp to run

for newer machines/installs that have never installed the standard drivers previously (ie only dch), some more stuff have to be installed first

I installed a fresh Windows 11, installed newest NVIDIA driver, copied over NVCPLUI.exe and it worked

interesting

i believe i know what's going on then,

there was a short period when the nv drivers didnt ship w/ any nvcp components at all, forcing you to download it from the windows store
they scrapped that now, and ship everything, but still in the new whatsitcalled uh windows store executable format; probably because of that it automatically installs all dependencies that also allow the old, classic nvcp to be run w/o further dlls or w/e

I tried uninstalling the modern NVCP via add/remove programs and he old NVCP still ran fine. Maybe they keep the files

yeah, id assume that they're keeping the requisite dlls somewhere that won't get uninstalled by that

So it should be enough to just ship the exe, put it on the desktop when requested and be done with it?

mmmm ... more or less ig?

ideally, it'd completely replace the nvcp (like, when you click on the taskbar icon), not sure whether that's possible at all tho

This seems workable, just low priority
