IMO it is definitely worth the little bit of investment ($14)
Before the heatsink the 960Pro would reach >100C for the controller during sustained workload, which is something I constantly do whenever I am processing data. The controller would get so hot to cause the entire drive to throttle down. That over 100C controller temp was during winter with a healthy 60F room temp! During summer it gets worse.
So after the digging around I went with the Silver Stone version. Installation was very simple and most importantly it feets in the TUF X99 armor perfectly. And now the temperature has become a lot more tolerable.
