Finding a 5850/5870/5970 - not easy!

I wouldn't worry about that. Just look at the sales from these cards alone. I think if they stopped making them today they still would have enough money! If you ask me AMD and ATI are the up and comers. In couple months there will be a post out there talking about how great that company is!!!

They have two 5850's at Zipzoom right now, prices are pushing over the $300 mark!!!

Neweggs 5870 offerings are pushing the $400 mark.

I think they underestimated demand.

I wish i didn't have my 4870X2 (Aug08), i'd get one of those too... lol but the short supply is because TSMC is having issues with the production of 40nm chips, they also say it can cause delays in weeks.

If you dont see a flood of cards then they will be in trouble, by then NVidia's new offerings might be on the shelves, if AMD have missed an opportunity to make enough cards available before NVidia's new releases, sales will only get worse when there is competition.

There will be many cards shipped before Christmas. Nvidia will have a couple newer DX10.1 cards before Christmas. Agreed but at this time, it can only be bad for AMD and therefore good for the opposition..... ironically I recall when the HD3870 and the 8800GT were released in the same week, the HD3870's were a little more widely available than the 8800GT so everyone (well everyone with a red tint in their eyes) screamed "Nvidia paper launch just to try and fu*k up ATi"..... this supply situation is not far removed from that.... a paper launch, certainly in the UK, a few cards came in to stores a week after release, they were sold out in a day, now everyone is in a queue apart from the odd buyer willing to pay 20% over the odds.

It's sad..... I am in the US on holiday for 2 weeks starting next Wednesday, if these cards were more widespread and available I would have asked a friend or two on here to get me a couple as with the exchange rate they remain a fair bit cheaper than the UK, if you can get hold of a 5870 whats the going rate for them in the US? Cheapest over here is around £310 which works out at about $490.

Most shops over here are listing them at $390......but yet to find one in stock.....to bad....sweet card.....AMD got screwed with this production Issue.....this card was a HUGE opportunity not fully taken advantage of......so far.

Hope ATI gets it flowing to market soon.

O the hype won't be dropping. These cards are made for gods as far I own couple ASUS 5850's best damn cards I've seen yet. Funny looking my local market every single store states like -50 -25 etc etc.. been like that past over month now. Got just lucky I ordered couple the day they came available and with way below atm price tag.

Anyway, I'd still say it's worth waiting even the drivers seems to have some idea of functioning correctly by now I'll not even mention optimization, lol. I'm here wondering what'll be the first title out on market which will hit the brick wall on even single HD5850. I mean G92 from NVIDIA didn't ever exactly have any problems with any title well except new DirectX yet the same card spins every title on market flawless. So, not gonna be any time soon that this new horse power run out (knocking the wood, just in case).

You know before I got my Diamond 5870 from new egg. I getting one from Zip Zoom Fly. It was the 5870. Anyway when I placed the order it didn't say preorder only. They said they had it in stock. Well that night they changed it from in stock to preorder only. Than they tried to say I couldn't get my money back. I had to get my credit card involved! I am now so anti ZIp Zoom Fly and I warn anyone who is thinking of ordering from there to stay away. I ordered there from the past and never had any problems. But the first time I needed their help this is what happened.
Anyway also lesson to be learned don't trust some Pre orders either! Sorry to be such a pessimist!

I use ZZF now (im pissed at Newegg) but their CS sucks big time, and RMA? lol, thats even worse..

so make sure to look at all the fine print.

When I had a pair of 4870s it was like crazy processing power (serious overkill) I can only imagine what a pair of 5850/70s would be like..

Indeed, but hell I had so sweet deal on 2 cards kinda take them or leave them with near same price they sell 5870's atm so though like, wth, lets build this insanity.

To be honest seeing what these can do I seriously doubt we'll gonna need this kinda of processing power to absolutely anything or well most likely only true idea even how to use to properly would be Stream/CUDA/OpenCL/DirectCompute style applications video encoders etc etc. Would be someday so cool to see would be the absolute top notch optimized 3D.
