Yeah yeah it is a Reddit discussion. It is more about summary of results across multiple review site.

My personal opinion. Welp after 2.5 years of purchasing this card I regret the sh*it of my decision. Should have gone with 980Ti. Would be so much better.

Got burned hard by AMD flagship GPUs this round.

At least Maxwell cards aged better.

Nvidia seems to have the best driver team/people out there honestly. Superb support for all cards.

For example: PCSX2 emulator if you have an AMD card and want to try to use OpenGL you get this message.
The OpenGL hardware renderer is slow on AMD GPUs due to an inefficient driver.
Check out the link below for further information.
https://github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/wiki/OpenGL-and-AMD-GPUs---All-you-need-to-know

Then eventually you'll get a catastrophic system crash.

Agree. I don't even have an nvidia card, yet their tech support called me after I emailed them asking for help coding in CUDA/OpenCL. It was about a year ago but that sort of dedication and customer service is what RTG lacks.

FYI I did the same thing with RTG, emailed them for help on OpenCL coding for the FuryX. Got some generic email asking me what driver I was using and what game I was trying to play. Never bothered much after that.

I think one of the issue with the fury X's is they were always in such short supply and there were probably too few units made/sold to make optimising drivers worth the effort. The TPU Fury X clubhouse is as lonely as ever.

970s were very successful upon launch, Nvidia had the supply nailed so everyone and their grandmother's grandmother could have one and thats exactly what happened. So many people jumped onboard with the 970s including myself. I bought one at first then grabbed a second one a week or two later for SLi.

Hugely successful till the whole memorygate scandal then the hype for the card seemed to die off slowly.... Its still a good card though.

Flagship GPUs were never meant to sell at high volume. Also flagship GPUs should never be neglected like FuryX. It is a huge blow to potential high-end GPU buyers' confidence in buying AMD's GPU in the future.

From the linked reviews it shows that FuryX was not even limited by 4GB VRAM in games when it performs piss poor. It was the lack of optimization from AMD, who simply do not give a f*uck at all about Fiji based GPU. Sometimes FuryX even fell behind RX480 and 1060.

Nah - the problem with AMD cards is that they need more VRAM capacity compared to NV. Computerbase.de did several good tests on it it. AMD is much less effecient when it comes to the available resources and that doesn't seem to be only restricted to the driver side of things.
And in case of (your) the Fury(X) with only 4GB VRAM you start running into a wall at 1440p with some games/settings, where cards like the GTX980 just run along just fine.

Since the 290(X) I haven't seen much progress on the AMD side. Just look at Vega ... roughly same performance clock for clock as the Fury cards. The only things that improved are manufacturing process and driver side.

You want to give NVIDIA a chance? If you love endless video problems in browsers with video corruption and tearing, endless problems with Fast and Adaptive V-Sync, endless issues with DSR and endlessly archaic, slow and clumsy Control Panel, you'll just love NVIDIA. Yeah, it's fast, when it works. But the amount of dumb stupid problems I've had with GTX 980 and GTX 1080Ti beats all the Radeons I've had in my whole time. COMBINED! I really don't know WTF NVIDIA is doing lately, but I'm really disappointed after almost a decade of listening how AMD's sofwtare is inferior and how NVIDIA's is superior... With the amount of praise, one would expect almost flawless experience. Reality is million light years from that.

I have had zero of those issues with Nvidia and have 40 times as many cards actively running right now. I have way more issue with my amd rigs.

I hope Intel under ex-AMD savior Raja can become our new overlords. It sucks to see AMD repeat the same mistakes over and over again.

I read in another thread Nvidia have apparently given up on gaming too, so Intel are our only hope.

But if VR and CUDA support are your thing instead of empty promises and dreams of future magic.... go Nvidia!

I stayed away from Fury in general because it was the first stab at using HBM and my general rule of thumb is always wait until at least the 2nd generation of a product so the kinks can get worked out.

Well once you factor in the radiator it no longer is a good option, size wise.

I'm still rockin the 290VX myself, but then again I'm pretty much set for awhile till i finally get a 2K monitor Lol, I'm still on a 17" 1280x1024. This card will eventually have custom memory timings, clock and voltage steps, just to see how far I can go with the VX cooler

Huh I'm not seeing poor performance from my Fury X. I don't have all the results handy but at the very least in Witcher III and Time Spy it's sitting right above the GTX 980 (1329MHz) and right below a GTX 1070 (2088MHz). The limited overclocking of the Fury X doesn't help it keep up but it's certainly not struggling at 1440p.

Here are the numbers I got:

upload_2017-11-13_20-50-44.png

Edit: Adding in some easier to digest numbers. Using the minimum frame times of the Fury X at each resolution as the baseline (100%), here's the performance summary.

GTX 1070
1080p: ~133%
1440p: ~130%
2160p: ~115%

GTX 980
1080p: ~84%
1440p: ~71%
2160P: ~73%

I wish I had the rest of the results from my current test suite for comparison. I guess you could say it's not performing as well as it could be, but at my native resolution of 1440p I'm not noticing issues in any of the games I play.
