If one gpu will match the performance of the gx2, which this seems to indicate it will, that's pretty impressive. 100% increase is pretty nice indeed. Hopefully it won't be 100% more expensive........ It is interesting though, if they perform on par w/ the gx2, wouldn't they have to price it around that? Maybe the price will be less that speculated so far.

yes thats good , but crysis will not be tamed by this generation of gpu's .

High settings w/ 4aa over 30fps average? That's quite good, and I would say effectively tamed, although if your looking to play it at 100fps w/ full aa, yes, you may have to wait a bit, if it ever works at all.

25 watt idle?! Peak power usage isn't as high as I thought would be.

It said it somewhere in there, or I assume when they say it plays at 34fps its an average, as that seems too low to be the high and too high to be the low. Thanks given.;)

@Shadow, you were expecting more than a 100% gain in benchies, or you were expecting more fps in Crysis? We all know Crysis is coded poorly (at least that seems to be the popular opinion) and as such should not be surprised if even the latest and greatest struggle somewhat w/ it. Its not lack of power, its lack of efficiency.

I was expecting like 100% gains across the board for how much they have hyping it.

Aw come on shadow, you should know the hype game. Both companies do it constantly, and sometimes just simply other people do it. Nvidia themselves haven't been saying much about it, all this hype is from others around here. Anyway, you can never trust it, and to expect 100% gains across the board on any new video card weeks before it is even released is to be disappointed. ;)

Oh, that is the truth. I have to say that this review is what I expected more then 100% gains... I don't think any Hardware manu. can have that done within a year of releasing another product... But, I could be wrong about that also.

With a dual gpu and mature drivers. Its on par w/ dual gpu's w/ the last generation, hence 100% gain. You can't expect a single gpu to come along and blow away 2 from the last gen. If it did, the prices would be astronomical. This is the beginning of the new gen, and we'll see how the price works out, b/c that's really the key here.

i really wouldn't call the 3870X2s drivers mature...maybe maturer but its been out what 4-5 months? thats not enough time for drivers to mature

Enough for the gpu to scale almost 100% across 2 cores (3870x2 really does equal 2 3870s). How much more mature can you get?

When more mature drivers come out I will start to call this a failure but right now idk if I can or not.. Its not even out yet.. I hope the HD 4800's win this generation and knock nvidia off. They got lucky with the 8000's/9000's but I think ATi is gonna be on top again.

God i'm looking for 110% :nutkick: and thats not in everything thats in a select few things like 3dmark and my 3850s do the same thing

price will determine if this is worth a damn cause if a 3870X2 and a 3870 is cheaper it looses before leaving the bin....and i would put money that this thing overheats like a bitch just from NVs current track record with the 8800GT's and Ultras

Now, that gives you hope if your an Nvidia fanboi!!! I really like to see what will happen with this card and the 4870!!!

You can't place the two on the same stratum. The HD4870 would be more of something that beats 9800 GTX and go close to maybe GTX 260......in games that is, not 3DMark.

Pricing makes it a killer since assuming HD4870 costs $350, you can use 4 cards in tandem for $1400 which is roughly the price of 3 GTX 260 units? I expect 4 HD4870's to outperform 3 GTX 260 cards.

The core tech drivers for the 38xx series have been out for a while, the cf is still in development, but still moving along nicely. These are beta drivers in this review.

I do agree w/ that second part though, this will need to be priced well to be competitive.

If it is then I'm with you. I wouldn't pay that much if it was a 400% increase. And if it only barely beats dual gpu's at half the price, then I don't know what they hope for. I guess we'll have to see what nvidia does w/ it.........
