Currently saving for my first PC, any suggestions for change in this build I have? I think it's pretty nice. What do you guys think? It will be used for light content creation, and heavy gaming usage. (also apologies if this is the wrong thread to post this in)
update: Planning on Windows 10 Pro (I know it says OEM but I will purchase normal copy). Added a Samsung M.2 SSD 250GB, Western Digital Blue 1 TB HDD, PowerColor Red Devil RX-480, and i5-6600k (due to recommendations).

Do you need that big of a hard drive? If not, consider a SSD instead. The slowest SSD will run circles around the fastest hard drive. They cost more, but when you consider the cost spread over the life of the computer, it is well worth it.

I don't see an OS listed. New computers typically need new licenses. OEM licenses are not legally transferable under any circumstance.

Excellent choice for a PSU.

While 8GB of RAM is enough, with the horsepower you are putting in the CPU and graphics, I would round it out with 2 x 8GB of RAM.

Thanks! I am using windows 10 pro, and noted with the RAM choices. Appreciate it!

Usually 4 channel memory is used for this CPU . i7 6800K is newer . Hope the cooler will not override/block the two RAM sticks It s a nice rig .

For the same money , may get this :

you should go got 6700k and z170 if u want OC and 6700 and B150 if u dont want OC. Also im not a fan of AMD so i would go for GTX10xx
SSD is a must

For light content creation (and heavy gaming) I would not bother with hyperthreading and go straight for the 6600(k). If you dont plan on OC'ing, go B150 + 6600 (non-k) instead. Seriously consider the added price of M.2 NVMe SSDs, as they are noticeably faster than SATA-SSD's. Don't budge on the 16GB, and make sure it's 2 modules of 8GB, so you can upgrade to 32GB whenever you feel like it.

GPU-wise, I'd either go RX470/480 4GB or jump straight to GTX1070, the cards in between are (IMHO) never worth their premium.

While the CPU must support it, it's really the board, not the CPU that determines if the system will run in dual or quad mode. And that board is dual-channel.

That said, note if you google quad-channel memory motherboard, you won't find any! And if you look at the benchmarks (and that PC World article), the advantages a quad RAM setup offers over dual is insignificant.

So if worried about it (I would not be), get 4 x 4GB, but if not, 2 x 8GB is just fine. If me, I would stick with 2 x 8GB and if worried later, get another 2 x 8GB. 32GB is serious overkill, but oh well. Its good for bragging rights! ;)

By the way, when it comes to power and heat with RAM, size doesn't matter (much). That is, 4 x 4GB will consume almost twice the power and produce almost twice the heat as 2 x 8GB even though both equal 16GB.

I still would get a SSD over a HD. Newegg has 256GB SATA III SSDs for as low as $65 that will blow the socks off the fastest hard drives (even hybrids). 256GB will easily support your OS and ALL your program files and user created files (Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, emails, etc.). You are spending good money on the latest technology CPU, motherboard, RAM, and graphics, why bottleneck those components with a slow, archaic, legacy, clunky, noisy, heavy, electro-mechanical slow (worth repeating) hard drive?

Note I have 64-bit W10 Pro, Office Professional (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Office Tools), all my installed programs (including security, HW monitoring, browsers, cleaners, etc.) and all my "Documents" on my 256GB Samsung 850 Pro and still have over 100GB free.

If you really need more space, you can always add a hard drive as a secondary drive.

And I would stick with the EVGA "Gold" PSU. They make a great 550W too and that is plenty, but 550W leaves less heat room for future hardware additions and updates than the 650W.

Nosada posted while I was typing. I agree with his comment that M.2 SSDs are faster. But the performance boost between SATA SSDs and M.2 SSDs is much smaller than between a hard drive and a SATA SSD.

At this point, I would just like to see any SSD instead of a HD, but yeah a M.2 (PCIe) SSD is the faster choice.

It would help if you told us more specifically why you want the Core i7. If it's for gaming you won't see much benefit, but if you do a lot of encoding, there may some debate. Or if it's just for bragging rights :)

Everything else looks good. I noticed you have a mid-tower case. Trying to fit all those components might be a tight fit, but I'm sure it's doable. The modular PSU will help.

EDIT: Windows OEM disks will work fine, but if you upgrade your MB in the future or it breaks, you'll have to get another license. I have heard of rare cases where Microsoft will transfer the license, but that was years ago.

If you want quad channel add another one of those ram kits, it is definitely not required in any way shape form or fashion though.

Google need to get the search bots going to look for quad channel motherboards. That one is. :) I stand corrected. Thanks.

Memory controller is on the CPU. If the board has at least 4 slots it will function in quad channel with X99. There are also tons of quad channel memory kits.

I know. But, the board must still support quad. X99 does, but not all chipsets do - even if the board has 4 slots. That's what I was getting at earlier. Moot point now since the OP changed to a X99 board - though still moot if going with just 2 sticks.

Windows 10 Pro he can add it whenever he feels the need. As a person who read the first post I assumed he was more than competent to add it on his own.

Only mute if he never plans to change anything inside the case ever again. It isn't exactly difficult to slap 2 more sticks of ram in.

EVGA 500B is not good for this rig And GTX 1060 instead of GTX 1070 ???

You are in the wrong thread. He has an RX480 in his build the 1060 I posted is $10 cheaper and performs better. The EVGA 500B is more than enough PSU to handle that CPU and GPU. He would be looking at a 300-350W load.

What's the point in 4 cores? There is already games using the 6 cores and showing a performance increase.

its better to chose i5 / i7, and also get a UPS for giving extra care to that rig instead 6 core processor, the performance shown in some games which also are a minor quantity does not justify the extra penny they worth ...

There is next to no price difference over the 4 core i7.
