First time ocing x1950pro 256mb. gpu temps, ocing, etc.?

hey guys, i've been thinking about ocing my gpu, and i know nothing in the field of gpu's so i'd like some help :) i've got a sapphire x1950 pro (http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/d5f3m/).

i'd like to know the temps for the gpu, like ideal temps, okay temps, fry point.
im also on stock cooling, and idk how to check the temps and stuff, basically i need you guys to help me find out about my gpu and then oc it while staying in a good temp range for loading the gpu. thanks guys :toast:

I'd say safe temps around 80C. GPU cores can stand a lot more heat than a CPU. If you use ATiTool, go up in increments of 5MHz, making sure it is applied automatically, and go up on core/mem in 5MH until you start artifacting.

gpuz/atitool + Gpu client = CRASH

err, exiting it from the counsle will turn off the client right?

Yes, but OCing should make up the time lost in future WU's, when it goes faster. Focus more on the core if you want to use it mainly for folding, and both for gaming.

only play gpu intensive games (oblivion) over the summer. the most gaming i get around to is a round of age of empires. mainly ocing for folding and extra heat in my room :) i heard that you dont oc the memory cause then the timings get relaxed and stuff, so i guess im ocing the core, so i just oc it from ati tool?

does pci e frequency help ocing at all?

okay, ati tool says that my mem is oced and that it might cause it not to find a lower core clock..

did it, got green strips all over my screen and then i got vpu recover, should i disable vpu recover?

okay, ati tool seems to be clocking my card, and i just got vpu recover again.

edit: got a message saying my driver failed from ms, thought ati tool stopped, but nooo, it had to keep going, distorted my screen and then turned it into black and white stripes all over the screen, and then i rebooted, clocked some of my cpu more..

any one know why i keep getting like the chkdsk thing evertime i boot? i think its cause almost everytime i boot its cause of a failed oc...

It's usually because your system wasn't shutdown properly, or you have it scheduled.

well that explains lol, almost everytime i boot, its cause of a failed oc... a normal turn off is always stand by for me..

dont trust ati tool anymore... err anyone know the stock speeds for the x1950pro and the 3 temps for it?
