Seriously tho, thats a bit borderline on personal attack/insulting another member.

mussels is right. stuff happens by mistake even tho how crazy the situation is. its like if you eat a dog treat when you wassnt paying attention to which box you were eating out of cause the box looks just like a cheeze-it box :)

Ok so when did flashing a GPU turn into a spam a joke thread. I again say either post on topic, or I will hand out points.

this was my bad for making a joke in the first place. i'll do a cleanup so that no one has to get infractions.

edit: done

Congratulations on getting it fixed dude :toast:

I hope you learned the lesson that came with this: though it's easier to use and may save some time, using such naming scheme can lead to this kind undesired results.

In the future, please resort to a more descriptive naming scheme so such mishaps become no longer possible.

You have a DX11 card and you are using XP. That is more interesting than flashing your 5970 with 7600 GT BIOS! I mean it!

Kinda the same Issue.

Hi guys!

I hope i may borrow this thread a bit since i kind of got the same problem.

A while ago i flashed my HD 4890 with RBE/Winflash so i get a higher voltage. Now, about three months later when i wanted to flash back to original(for some reason? :twitch:) i couldn't find the original bios file that i saved. It's like i never saved it, but i know i did. That's why i downloaded a new BIOS from TechPowerUp! and i think i might have downloaded a veeeeery wrong BIOS. Like the 4890 BE card or something like that.

When i try to boot the computer with the HD 4890 in the Primary PCIE Slot i get this:
"You have not connected one of your video card power connectors to the power supply. please refer to the 'getting started guide' for proper hardware installation."

And neither W7 nor DOS can find the card when i try with another video card in the Primary slot and the HD4890 in the Secondary slot.

I don't have the standard reference 4890, but the XFX non-reference:

From what i understand by reading this thread, BIOS Chip are the kind of chips that i've marked here:

Sorry for the bad quality pictures.

Pm25LV010's data sheet looked almost identical to the one computertechy found, but my question is, is it this chip?

I am not that electronicly involved, but i think i am capable of performing the small operation that is required.

Any help is appreciated!

Best Regards Daniel from Sweden!

You did actually connect the power cables to the video card, right? You never said if you did or not in your post...

Oh, sorry about that! :)

Of course i did, actually, i didn't even unplug the card after flash. The card was in the entire time and after flash the message came up during POST.

Yes, m25 chips are flash memory (so bios). If you don't want to lose the warranty, don't solder anything, just make contact vccd with chip select until boot.

You mean like this?

Which way is the best way to do this, because i still need to remove this connection after boot, right? So when i get to DOS, i remove the bridge?
While my big heatsink is on? Hrm....

Thanks for answer!

Regards Daniel

EDIT: I forgot that the chip was on the backside! :) I will try this now!

Yes, pin1 & pin8.
Have you easy acces to the bios chip when the coler is there?
If so, just take a wire, make contact of pins, power on the computer with a working primary gpu. Make the contact until it boots, then flash it (remember to flash the correct one). :)

Yes, i do.

I've tried this now, but in DOS + ATIFLASH i get
"Adapter not found
Error 0FL01 : Press '1' to continue"

My code:
"atiflash -p 1 newbios.bin"

And my biosfile is called newbios.bin.

The card is putting it's fan to 100% when i pull the connection, is it normal?

I'm getting really frustrated here :(

This is an xfx radeon 4890 with non-reference cooler like in your picture. Clocks are stock (i.e. 850 mhz). Model no. hd-489x-zs

So, I'm wondering..

Are you running CrossfireX? I can't believe you borked the card and then just ordered another 5970.
Glad you got it working though.

Yes, the 1th and the 8th pin on the bios chip. I boot up then i remove the wire. But still adapter not found.

I seriously start to think that this card might be completely dead.

:( Please help me, what i am i supposed to do?

Best regards Daniel!

Hi Daniel, could you do this again, and type: atiflash -i
If your card doesn't appear there, maybe the card is really dead or maybe chip select pin doesn't recive voltage from vcc.
If it's detected, you have the same problem as my old old card;

Hi cbupdd!

Thanks alot for your reply!

I've just spoken to my father and he thinks that i should call the shop i bought the card from and hopefully try to work something out with them.

I will repost on how this turns out.

Thanks again!

It happened a funny thing to me; I was going to resurrect my old x300se with this metode, but I had a problem with ati flash, "flash not detected, error 0fl01 :(
I searched on the web, and there was a solution using flashrom.. The result, my 5670 was flashed with a x300se bios
I booted with a pci, and my 5670 wasn't found with atiflash, so I used this metode and my 5670 is now alive
The bios chip of the 5670 was on the back, so I didn't need to solder anything, I just made contact pin 1 with pin 8 with a wire, until de computer booted.
Also, if it helps someone, I will make a step by step guide, with photos

That would be great if you could as I too have an HD 5670 that needs re flashing
