So I need to use flashrom for a project and I'm unsure what to do to get it started.
Day to day I use windows for the majority of my needs but looking at the documentation it seems installing it on windows is a pita. Do I try to install it from source (I'm an idiot, it might not go well) or slap a small hard drive in my workstation and run a duel boot setup with Linux.
Anyone familiar with flashrom who can advise me on what the better route is?

Oh and I'm not a fan of virtualbox whatever I do on it never tends to go well so I'd rather go down the duel boot route if I have to.

I have a fairly old binary build of flashrom for windows but I think it only works with the CH341A programmer. Otherwise your going to find it very hard to port to windows. I'd just dual boot linux or similar.

That's all I need, I'm trying to flash a mx25l12833f nor chip and all the software I can find for my ch341a doesn't support that chip but apparently flashrom does.

My build is from circa 2018 so one would hope it's new enough. I'll upload it when I get home.

EDIT: Try here:

You may also have luck with AsProgrammer for windows IIRC.
Already tried asprogrammer sadly it doesn't support my nor chip I'm trying to program.
I've just got home myself and I'm thinking I need Linux for a few other things so I might aswell go down the duel boot route.
Just having a coffee then I'm gonna slide a old laptop HDD I have and install Ubuntu ( my servers all run some offshoot of Debian so it should be the most familiar distro).

I take it the windows build I linked could not ID the chip?

Sadly no, I know flashrom supports it just not sure what build. I've just finished installing Ubuntu on an old HDD( damn those things are slow) it's just updating packages now I'll look into what libraries I need and installing flashrom once it's done, like I said I kinda needed a Linux distro on my workstation for building OpenWRT images so it's worth it. I'm sure if I look into it, alot of the other programs I use for esp flashing and other opensource projects are probably better suited to Linux rather than windows anyway.
Thanks for looking though.

Seems like another dead end I was told flashrom supports the nor chip I'm trying to flash but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm going to have to order another SPI programmer tomorrow to use with flybox software as I know that supports the chip. Another two weeks wait it seems (China post).

Atleast I have Ubuntu to play with now.
