This thread makes me wonder how many people these days have a lifestyle which mainly consists of sitting behind their own PC at home for most of their time awake. I cannot imagine any other era in human history in which people were, "alone", or atleast in their own house, for such a big part of their lives.

On topic though, I have a server thats turned on 24/7 a day, but with all the power savings I can think of enabled, and fairly low power hardware(it all runs on an ancient bestec 300W PSU).
My main PC some days runs from 7am to 11 pm, other days when i'm busy at the uni or away from home it'll be off, or switched on perhaps just an hour or two a day.

I spend 22 hours or so in my apartment most days. working from 7-5 and then when i feel like it playing afterward. sometimes i need to remove myself from the machine at that point, but more often than not I will still be sitting here at 10pm. and that's doing the thing i love (actually playing with the computer) least of all.

Whatever reason we evolved social skills, social interaction is necessary for our sanity. you don't realize it until you recognize you have gone days without talking to another person face to face. when i saw that i obviously knew it wasn't good, like everyone else just knows. but it still took a long time to break that habit. i think it's only going to get like that for more people.

You're doing that solo though.
It would have been better if that was a screenshor of TES mmo with friends around dead mammoths.

You missed the point. I don't think he was differing with the fact we're beyond killing mammoths for food, but that we needed social skills to do it. Hence why he showed himself soloing two mammoths. Your way would've been funny too.

...and I know, explaining the joke ruins it :ohwell:

I do think he begged to differ about the fact that we are beyond hunting mammoths. that's what made the most sense to me.

A couple of hours daily. More on weekend. But never 24/7

Btw, Wizzard should make a pool something like this: "How many hours/day are you doing any physical sport or go outside". 90% I bet that will vote 0 hours :))

lol seriously that's 1 of my two hours away from my apt on average , and if it wasn't for walking my dog it would be less. Now that's it's summer I'll be hiking and camping all the time, but still spend at least 10hrs a weekday on my machine... that's my job!

My main rig used to be on all day and most nights for streaming to my 360 even though it would never work, now that I have a HTPC it'd be on 2 hours or less unless transferring over FTP. My HTPC would be on up to 8 hours depending on what I'm doing.

At work from 7am-4pm not going to get up early to go play a game or w/e. Once home I play with my kids then there's dinner, getting the kids to bed, time with the wife, etc. No need to keep my rig on that whole time, not with 480's in sli and their power draw.

Interesting! My day is something like this:

Wake up between 4am-5am
Make coffee and breakfast, spend until 7am using the computer, browsing internet, doing personal stuff. (I naturally wake up early.)
At 7am I take a shower and I'm out the door somewhere between 8am and 8:30am.
I get to work where I sit in front of a computer and program.
noon-ish I go out and get lunch, bring it back and eat it in front of the computer.
I keep working until I leave the office and my computer at 4:30
Tuesday through Thursday I bring my wife to an LNA course and I watch the daughter.
I play and have dinner with my daughter, she goes to bed and I'm usually back on the computer until 9 or 10pm. I go to bed and do it all over again.

On Tuesday and Thursday you can cut out the traveling part because I have a home office and I tele-work two days out of the week, but generally speaking I can safely say that between work and play, I spend more time in front of a computer than I do sleeping.

So I'm the opposite, but if I weren't a system admin or a developer, I think it would be a bit different. :ohwell:

The only time my computer turns off is during the weekend or vacation where I'm not home and I don't need access to the stuff on my machine. 24/7 otherwise except for cleaning.

My PC use per day varies from none to about 10~12 hours. On average, roughly 2~3 hours per day.

I make sure the computer is switched off after use to conserve power consumption as electricity prices are a bit too high (where I live), and I'm on limited income at the moment.

back then ~2-3 hours at weekdays and almost all day on weekends.
These days around an hour or less on weekdays and around 3-4 hours on weekends.
reason is mountain biking or just doing urban assault or XC trail riding.

There should be an option for 10+ hours. My PC stays on for about 12 hours but I turn it off when I sleep.

I don't know how people leave their PCs on 24/7, the computer always feel more responsive and snappy with a reboot every now and then.
