Ya, got it. It reports that I've been "mentioned", which is the correct alert.

EDIT: Note that I've not been having trouble receiving such alerts.

Yeah it's not working. It used to for me. Ive tried clearing my cache, enabling and disabling the mention function in my preferences, not sure what is truly going on. Perhaps my profile needs to be reset?

Quick version: stricter formatting requirements for signatures would be a plus. also, a push to get more members into the community would be nice.

Long version:

Have to admit, this website has an insanely good layout and little features I love. Like, it auto edits me instead of double posting when I am too sleepy to realize. Just little things like that I have never experienced before, its not bloated like OCN is, very pleasant to the eyes.

Only issue with TPU imo is the community is a little too small for my tastes, I get the same 5-7 people in every conversation on almost any forum. OCN seems to be a little more diverse / bigger user base. Would be nice to see TPU have some more outreach, because the website is truly 10x better than any other forum I have ever used tech wise.

Only other issue I have is signatures, one guy in huge colored letters saying "Do not flash your BIOS" forget his name, but it hurts my eyes sometimes, like that the only other thing I like about OCN better, they have stricter rules on cussing, politics, and signature formatting. TPU is still the winner at the end of the day, because the new OCN website is absolute junk imo, same thing with Head-Fi after they re-did Head-Fi a few months ago, absolutely ruined everything. TPU not only improved, it has become the A+ example of how a forum should operate technically and graphically. (I also love how you make it so easy to insert links and rename them in the same window pane) just little touches like that I don't see elsewhere, lol. :)

You know there is the Ignore function so just use that.

Anyway to have threads older than 11 months be auto locked if there hasnt been any current activity? This way it will help prevent thread necros? And if the OP wants it to become active again, he has to email a mod.

If the large dialog box that pops up and says "HEY YOU, THIS THREAD IS XX MONTHS OLD ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO POST?" doesn't do it......

Really, I very rarely see this here due to that measure already implemented.

I have to disagree also. This is a tech site and the subjects in forums sometimes become relevant 12 or 18 months down the line. @EarthDog is right. The big warning is enough. If there is new information that can add to an existing discussion or a user needs to clarify information already in said thread, then that is enough to continue it.

+1 I'd rather they didn't auto lock either. I've posted a handful of times in them where I thought it was relevant.

For example, I've got a light-hearted thread on here called The graphics card with the hottest looks! which I started waaay back in 2010 and has almost 700 posts there now. Every so often - sometimes after more than a year - I, or someone else will post in it with a hot picture of a graphics card to gawp at. Major pain and put-off if it got auto locked.

Generally, the fewer restrictions on members the happier I am. I get we need them to keep the forum sane and under control, but the lightest touch possible is the best way imo.

I'm sure it's been said before but I can't quote the original post on news articles. "Reply" bounces to the reply box at the bottom but appears empty. This is happening on Edge.

@W1zzard : would it be possible to add data-author attribute with member username to the article tag for the front page comments? Basically the same system forum has?

I need it, uhm, for scientific purposes :).

Thanks!

Same is happening in Firefox.
Well that's your issue. XD
While I agree with your implication concerning Edge, this is happening in Firefox and I suspect Chrome.

This is intentional, because quoting would otherwise quote a huge chunk of text in our internal formatting.

You should be able to select quote though, let me figure out if this can be fixed easily.

Edit: and fixed

Hey the mention function is now working again for me, not sure if it was a glitch though, just a heads up W1z

I noticed the name in sigquote BBCode isn't being appended to the end like it was. The quote in my signature should be attributed to Neil deGrasse Tyson but it's not showing up.

Scraping? I would like to read (as a human) the news comments in my browser without reading those from obvious trolls. In 99% of the time I'm on this site I'm logged out, so ignore doesn't solve anything for me. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

Gotta find time to remake the sigquote addon. BTW better quote from him that I came across today while watching a pretty good climate change talk is "The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it."

You are using something like Greasemonkey then I guess? Worth the trouble instead of just staying logged in?

Basically the same as what I quoted but he was almost in tears so it didn't come out very concise. I'll take it!

You mean xenforo.com?
