I'm quite sure this won't ever change again... but it still saddens me to see the Thanks button replaced with 'Like'.

This ain't Facebook dammit... and Thanks is just so much more appropriate in 99% of all cases. Like just now, people helped me out... and I like them? :kookoo:

There's a shortcut that navigates to TPU main page when pressing "1".
Any way to disable that?

And if you push 2, 3, & 4, you get Forums, new posts, and members respectively.

Why would you want to disable it?

I use WIN+number keyboard shortcut in windows for switching between apps instead of alt-tabbing.
I always bind web browser as first icon (so, under "1").
And, restoring browser window that had tpu forums open in active tab ends up redirecting that page to TPU homepage.
A bit annoying.
It may be a bug in firefox - ie and edge have no such problem.
Still, would be nice to know if there is any way to disable those shortcuts :)

I reported this to the XenForo people a month back or so, they say it's not a bug, it's a feature

I dont know whats going on with tpu, but i had to confirm a liked post a moment ago, i hope thats not a new feature...a new window and confirmation seems a touch silly....hopefully a glitch

Also I'm unable to use the site on my desktop. The pages never stop loading ,and I never get any type of ability to post or edit. I just get blank boxes everywhere, I've experienced it before in recent weeks. These issues (this time) began roughly around 07:25est fwiw

Assuming js is JavaScript, no it's not disabled. It was working fine at 7:24 and for days it just all of a sudden started doing this just like the previous times.

It's odd because everything will work fine for a week ,and then suddenly for a 10 or 30 minutes I won't be able to do anything on desktop(but it works on the dreaded iphone 5c, which is TERRIBLE with the new XF), I won't change anything or even reboot ,but suddenly when I go back to the site it works again

edit

now its fine on DT....it has done this now 3 times since the new forum upgrade that i am aware of. weird

That's happened to me a couple of times too. Usually reloading the page fixes it.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Of course they are... it just dilutes it when people like nearly every damn post for shits and giggles. Want to make the likes here worth something? Limit their use. Otherwise, its just a likes whoring show...or what you just did. :)

If we can have unlimited likes, I would surely like a 'thumbs down' or something to go with it. At least that way people can see what is a true good or liked answer versus the free wheeling use of it.

Couldn't disagree more. I have yet to see anyone going on a "Like" spree. And if they do, what harm would it cause? "Likes" are not digital currency. Nor are they a form of achievement. They are a form of acknowledgement, gratitude and appreciation.
I would surely like a 'thumbs down' or something to go with it.
Again, gotta disagree. If you don't like a comment, don't "Like" it. We don't really need that kind of negativity.

I liked your comment to be a smart@$$, not to agree with you. People are allowed to like, or not, whatever they want.
+1 I've liked this post and your others here for both reasons, to show appreciation and to make the point that we can like as many times as we want.

I think it's only ED that's niggled by likes for some reason.

Its fine as it is :)
a Thumbs down Button can also be abused like the like button
with a thumbs down button the effect is detrimental in that those that may have a persecution complex may feel picked on if their post receives one too many thumbs down
Thumbs down can make people feel unwelcome
That is Something we as a forum don't really want

I see no need for a change to the current system IMHO. Maybe W1z can take another review, but last time this was brought up everyone on mod and member-sides had agreed it was fine as-is IIRC.

I'd rather put more emphasis on quality of users posting rather than the weight of what the like feature is actually used for TBH. I hope most of you will agree, if we're worried about Likes, we're worried about the wrong thing that makes TPU worth a damn.

I'll like posts I either agree with, find helpful or useful. Otherwise I don't use it.

I disagree with having a dislike feature, one look at Reddit reminds me why very quickly. Last thing we need is another outlet to be abused for toxicity beyond folks pushing boundaries and going against the rules we have as it stands, a lotta folks are also sensitive and seeing reports because a user disliked their post isn't worth our time to babysit IMHO. I'd rather see likes abused, which honestly doesn't happen all that frequently and is short lived.

Regardless the feature doesn't have much weight beyond folks agreeing with a statement. I can see it skewing if members and viewers base what they choose to blindly follow based on how many likes a user or user's post has...we can't fix that lack of common sense nor should we have to try. Is it perfect? No. Should we spend time trying to perfect it over other things here? No, IMHO.

Again, this goes back to the fact that if a statement is liked by other members, hopefully it is of decent use to the topic and of good quality or is an agreed statement (most common). I'd rather see folks focusing on posting better quality content and helping other users here rather than focusing on likes and like counts. Frankly if what I suggest here is followed, the likes will follow naturally too. Just my 2 cents though.
