Forums ads after first post

If I had to pay to remove ad's, I'll find a new forum to go to, and never return here

QFT. I absolutely love TPU and no adds has been a great part of that love. I'm more and more unlikely to visit a site that has ads everywhere (those kinds that adblock doesn't kill). Hate fileplanet for their corporate schemes to force people to pay for demos and betas. Please don't let TPU go that way.

There was news here "Internet Could Run Out of Capacity in Two Years" let's remove all the adds of the internet and behold, capacity for everyone

Something that TPU gets money from and can be blocked is fine. If you put RED text adds somewhere on the site, I'll absolutely hate you, even penis pumps and viagra adds or some pokersite popups are better

Ha, that's interesting. I don't get ads at work about 10 miles from here, but at home I do.

Maybe it depends more on your ISP than region. I'd imagine the business class ISP won't allow them or something like that. Pfft. Ah well, I get to clicky at home then.

I don't see them. I'm assuming Adblock (with the Filterset.G updater) filters them?

I do find them a bit annoying to me as Zerk pointed out the usually have nothing to do with the topic.. but that ok other sites have this if it brings Wiz $$$ than its all good.


I think maybe members with over 100 posts (or another #) should be able to disable em in control panel If you have so many posts already you usually know what your looking for and it should be optional Thats just me, if you think its a good idea Wiz than maybe make a poll to see what the whoe comunity things.. we have alot of visitors here too and they wil still see the adds.

edit: I also had 2 adds under each other once :O

edit: I just noticed the adds are only under the 1st post/page.. thats not bad at all.

Anyone see this post I wonder if this could work out smoothly with the sponsers.

There is now a HUGE whitespace between posts to make space for the banners. EEK. Every post has this huge whitespace.

And you want to fill these whitespaces with colourful, blinking gifs? EEK

personally i dont like them BUT as others have said if it helps to pay YOUR bills W1zz............

it would be nice to have the option to Disable them as I find them extremely annoying

when i came on here this morning for a few min and i went to read a thread and i was like WOAH!

I have a question Wizzard?

Why is it that so many cards have recommended on them? Shouldnt that be reserved only for 2 cards? 1 being Nvidea and 1 being ATI


Also its an ok idea at best but I don't think this is really worth it unless in turn you will eliminate those darn pop-ups whenever I move my mouse over a certain word in an article, its really annoying

Also whats the point of this recommended stuff when we can just as easily read the reviews that our fellow users make about certain products such as the official review here on TPU for the AGEIA PHYsX card that I can't find a link to right now lol

Some of the threads are showing two ads, second right after the first.
I do not know if this is by design or a bug in the scripting.

if its time for ads at this site then the site as i know it is finished.

as soon as you have ads you will have spammers surfing the site sending you to sites and directing you to click on the ads. you cannot have advertising without having spammers.

once the dog lays a turd you WILL have flies buzzing around, its unavoidable.


this site will never be the same again and i will miss it. i only hope i am able to find another site that can come close to being as well run as this one was.

We have spam threads/posts everyday. Many are deleted automatically by a filter and the moderators take care of the rest.

just to clarify my first post, it was meant to refer only to the forum section of TPU even though i failed to actually say that.

everyone here at TPU does a great job blocking spamers but my point is that there will be a HUGE increase of spamers along with these ads and to be honest these ads ARE spam themselves so ..... now you get into whats an ad vs whats spam or is there really any difference. which is where my doggy doo and flies analogy came in.

i love this site and everything about it is first class and done the way a site should be done.

but in my opinion the forums are no place for ads. there is plenty of room to put them everywhere else throughout TPU and thats fine but you shouldnt say no spam and then you put an ad in there, its a double standard.

Actually Im not getting any ads anymore either.

I dont concider it a double standard keakar, most spammers I have seen post on tpu are scammers aswell, no need for tpu to have to filter theses spammers from scammers out, tpu gains nothing from them and only would lose time filtering out the legit ones.


It does take away from the nice clean reading you can acomplish here on tpu, I think members who have been here for 1 month and have over 100 post should have them as optional.. or restrictive thats only what I think, dont think the sponsors would like that but I think it would be better for us.

im with the text ads, except for their location, why not put them at the bottom? these are pay per load ones right? cause im not gonna be clicking them... since you get paid for having the ads load, put the ads at the bottom of every page, the ads will be loaded, and the continuity of the thread wont be broken

I personally have no problem with banners on the front page, and I wouldn't mind them at the top of the forums either, but I hate ads which go in-between posts. They are the worst thing IMO...

I understand that some ads might be needed to fund TPU, but I personally think putting them directly in the middle of a thread is a bad idea, very bad. It ruins the appearance of forums. I'm not personally seeing them but I really hope you don't keep them W1zz.
