Hey guys,

I am looking to get my ACMT and in order to be successful in the cert chase, I need to use a Mac more than once in my life...

I'm not looking to spend a huge amount, but I am looking to replace my Dell E7480 that has an i5, 16GB of RAM, 250GB Samsung 850 EVO and a 1080P panel. They seem to go for about $500, give or take.

That'll give you a *rough* idea on what I am looking to spend. I'm hoping that'll net me a 2015-ish model.

Don't offer me the "build a hackintosh" response... please! I want a legitimate MacBook Pro.

$500 can maybe get you a late 2013 MBP 15" with base specs (2.2ghz i7 8GB RAM) which would translate to a 4750HQ/Iris HD 5200/ and the SSD can be upgraded with M.2 adapters 3rd party's sell.
I'd really recommend the late 2013 over the mid as it's Haswell vs Ivy and has far superior integrated graphics. Everything else is the same afaik.

I've seen 13" models for around that, but they're dual cores, not quad's.

All 2013-2015 Pro models are the same, 15/13inch. It's just the specific CPU that differs, they're all Haswell (Crystalwell) Quad's/Dual's. Only difference is that the 2015 15" can be equipped with a R9 M370X (HD 7770) vs a GT 750M (GT 730)

And found!

Grabbed a mint 2014 on eBay with only 41 charge cycles, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD for $500 shipped. Hopefully all goes well with it!
