Free 64-bit compatible defragger wanted

I want something better than the built in defragger in Win 7, as it doesn't show you any fragmentation diagrams or anything - it's seriously dumbed down shit.

Any good free ones out there?

I use UltraDefrag and UltimateDefragment, both of which beautifully on my Windows 7 Professional x64 system and seem to work better than the Windows defragmenter.

I use OO Defrag, but it is not free. It has a 64-bit version, but it does have the defrag diagram, though it is not the only means to see the fragmentation as it creates detailed reports about what was fragmented, how it was fixed, blah blah blah. I stopped reading those.

I use UltimateDefrag 1.72 by DiskTrix. It is a completely free version, although you can buy the newer version. Works fine in Windows 7 x64.

You can defragment fragmeted files only, consolidate, arrange by folder/file name, volatility and recency, as well as respect high performance.

Umm UD 1.72 works in Vista \ Win7 last time i checked you just need to Run As Administrator.

Probably by how quickly it actually performs the defragmentation. I haven't liked the windows built in one since XP.

Features/customizability/speed etc.
For e.g. I use last year's version of Diskeeper pro (2009) and it has a full GUI and drive map, proper auto defrag for all the drives, file placement for faster access according to frequency of usage, system files defrag, is very fast etc etc. The latest version even has a new feature (works as a service IIRC) that is said to prevent much of the fragmentation from occuring during file writes.

Ofcourse, one has to pay for all that.

If you consider only the freeware defraggers, then I'd stay with the Windows native defragger..atleast it's safe and backed by MS, I don't know about the safety of the freeware utilities..may not be a problem but I don't want to find out

So if I write a program which is just a progress bar that takes 3 minutes and 36 seconds to finish and then show a messagebox saying "done defragmenting" it would be a superior tool? Even though it didn't actually do anything.

I haven't defragged a disk in years, I can't say this has caused any problems.

I contest that -I tested Auslogics by running it, then I ran the Windows one afterward and just had it analyze my disk - it said that the disk was 0% fragmented, indicating that Auslogics actually does defrag, and does a faster job that the one included in Windows does.

Really the only difference I've found between defraggers is time, all of them do the same job, just the windows one usually takes a little more time. At least the free ones.

I use MyDefrag - It uses windows own defrag api and its free!

on my rig in the sig I found Smart Defrag to give me the best performance ...I measure performance with HDTune and HDTach .
