Where can i find defrag that has "Aggressive Free Space Consolidation" ?
I mention a couple possibles above:
Raxco PerfectDisk is one, for certain, that I know has this option...
Executive Software's Diskeeper & possibly O&O Defrag also may have such options...
I have not used these latter 2 in awhile, & am a BIT hazy on their options' details...
Simply because I went w/ Raxco's PerfectDisk recently over Diskeeper (which I have used since version 1.1 in the NT 3.5x days, & was featured as a testimonial user on their website back in 1996 for "Enterprise Class Users", & they even sent me a Diskeeper pen (my fav one no less, lol))...
PerfectDisk does do a better job in 1 pass, than Diskeeper does, & I hated to admit it... GHayes, one of Raxco's support techs, & I "had it out" @ NTCompatible.com one time, & he swore to me that Raxco would surpass ExecSoft in this capacity, & it appears they have, from version 7 onwards.
I couldn't deny evidences from tests I saw, recent ones from Raxco & possibly 3rd parties tests, & even those evidences put up in a thread here....
A lot of testing work was done in that area, & ExecSoft hasn't replied in kind, anywhere I could find @ least.
Diskeeper's moving to more of the "uptime is most important" line of thinking & continues to do so... by emphasizing online defrag smoothness as one of their strong points. It seems Raxco has gone the OTHER way, making single pass forefront MANUAL defragging more important & thorough, vs. background online defrag passes.
Depends on how you look @ it. For networked defrags & server defrags? I could see ExecSoft's approach as being better potentially... but, for a home users?? I have to go w/ Raxco's approach in more thorough SINGLE PASS defrag runs.
(Try those!)
* Good Luck!
