Too bad the board only has 2 DIMM slots or I'd tell my cousin to buy it, he uses 4X1GB of OCZ Plats.

Has MSI been having issues? I've had three MSI boards in the last seven years and never really had a problem with them. The latest one I've used was a nForce 750a board. I only ask because I'm seriously considering picking up this bundle but would prefer to avoid possible build issues.

My cousin's MSI K9__ Platinum has been running for 4 years and he hasn't had any problems, but I did notice how easy it was to bend around the capacitors while I was replacing his heatsink. :D Shouldn't be a problem for that 785G board though, I recall it being advertised as having 100% solid capacitors though I could be mistaken.

I guess it really depends on the board you buy, the MSI 790GX/FX(GD-somewhatever) have know overclocking issues that make them almost worthless as AMD Enthusiast boards.

I've had the worst experience possible with an MSI's boards, Two of my Socket 478 boards i had from them borked after few months use, i've tried there 680i board and it was a royal pain to overclock, and finally to top it all off I've had an MSI P45 Platinum(there highest P45 offering) literally FRY on me and start smoking after turning it on for the first time.

Might want to find some reviews of that exact 785G board before you go buy it.

i dunno where you got that info from MSI-790FX is one of the top 3 overclocking boards out. I think the problem is the board is too advanced for alot of people. You can literally change the voltage on everything on the motherboard.

I had a MSI P45 also burst into flames over here....Something in the voltage regulation/modulation circuitry next to the CPU socket burst into a flame. Lucky for me it didn't take my Q6600 or HD4870X2 with it.

I am not buying an MSI board ever again.

Like with any company people will have good and bad things to say. With MSIs recent offerings ive had nothing but good and can say the 790FX-GD70 was the best overclocking board i had for AMD.

If any of you guys are only interested in the cpu, PM me I might just buy the board off you if you want to make a couple bucks. :)

PS: My 3rd MSI board that I just recently sold was great, MSI P7N Platinum. Never a hitch from that board at all. The other 2 I didn't expect anything from because they weren't in overclocking machines.

"As with all the other 790FX boards, we had high hopes for the MSI 790FX-GD70. The 790FX, when paired with our triple-core CPU has provided us with some great overclocks. We followed our typical overclocking rituals, and after about 15 minutes or so, we raised the vcore up to 1.45v. When we did that, we got a "pop" from the board, and then the all-too familiar smell of electrical death was in the air..."

Point Proven.

Something sounds odd to me

I have been pushing 1.6V core on air with my 945ES/GD70 790FX for the past month and my board has yet to pop/overheat...basing your opinion off that one review seems fickle to me then again you have had bad luck with the company in the past so i am sure you are a bit burned by them to begin with

I love my GD70 790FX and i haven't had one problem out of it other then blatant nooby user error on my part...in all of the GD70 threads i have participated in so far no one has had there board just die on them and the board has brought many 965 C3 BE's to 4Ghz+ easy on air

If you are mentioning the review where the PWM popped by saying "the MSI 790GX/FX(GD-somewhatever) have know overclocking issues" thats a bit over the top don't you think? one failure in one review and it now has known widespread overclocking issues?

I understand you are indefinitely butt hurt by MSI but you really need to give there new AMD gear a whirl or at least an in dept look before you try to strike it down :ohwell:

On topic: If i had a Fry's near me i would illegally drive there just to get my hands on this deal....i would love to see this 785G on the bench beside my GD70....the colors would match so well

I just double checked to make sure the board has DDR2 and of course it does...i would love to pick it up from you

GD70 is a hit and miss when its vcore pushed to >1.7V with xtreme cooling. If its pwm popped then most of the time it will kill the cpu too.
