Yeah well, I'm working on the site's layout and graphics before I start making it completely public. Anyway, no-one got an opinion on the 50'' monitor PC?

I hope you have a reliable phone service for all the customer support (assuming you sell some systems).

Indeed. I have a customer support system ready, at the minute it's e-mail based, but I am working on recruiting people to man the phones.

And thanks for the URL thing.

To mark the first online sale, and another person interested in a system, I've released a new system. And I have to say, it's pretty good. And, because it's recieved so many good reviews from round here, I stuck in an HD2900XT in there. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Also, forums on the site are up :)

OK, so it seems most of my visitors are from the US. So, just wondering, would it be a good idea to create separate pages for different countries? Also, how mwany of you would like to see office PC's and not just gaming/media? Would there be a market for this kind of system?

Oh, and I should also say that prices on the site exclude shipping at the minute, because I'm waiting for a quote from the Post Office.

Thanks,

Ben.

When going to the testimonials link on your site you cant navigate back through the links except the home link.
Just thought id let you know. Good luck.. :toast:

P.S. I know the site is under construction but be sure to give more details about the components your putting in your systems, if someone is going to buy a system with 8GB of ram there going to want to know what type of ram it is...

If you purchase a system, and find out maybe 3 months ago you need an upgrade, you can get an upgrade through either us or your preferred reseller. However, we recommend an upgrade from ourselves, because getting an upgrade from anywhere else will void your warranty with us. Getting the system upgraded by us keeps your warranty intact.

Hope this clears up any questions you might have... need any clarification on an issue, just post a new topic and ask.

i completely disagree with this, you're no better than hp or some of those crap companies who enforce this

ram brand would be nice too
and also ad the type and brand of ram to the other pcs

I see where you're coming from with that, but the thing is, if people just start buying whatever upgrades they like and they send it back to me to get it repaired, I'm not going to know where they bought it from, so I can't get a replacement part. If I do an upgrade, I'll know where all the parts came from. And all RAM is OCZ, I'll add that later when server CPU load is down.

I wanna see you sell a computer. Your website is the first interaction your company has with the customer, and to be honest, it's very far from appealing.

Right now, I see no reason to go with you over the big guys. Please take down that huge picture on the front. Neaten everything up by having something divide all the white space instead of everything displayed on a big white blob.

You don't have to have a UK and US version. Just display both prices together, with US dollars in parentheses maybe.

As I said, I'm working on the layout. And at the minute, the site's not "public". It's just you guys who get to see it at the minute, to give me suggetions. Anyway, I will have a new layout this weekend.

And as for going with the big corporations... it's your choice. You either choose us or someone else. If you choose us, fine. If choose someone else, fine. As long as you get what you want, I'm not really fussed.

And thanks for your opinion on multi-country version of the site.

Also, if the site's down in the next few days it migt be because I'm moving to my own server. You guys really use up the CPU power on that one :).

Usually PayPal, but at the minute, it's not working, so I'm trying to fix it. People can pay through check as well if they don't feel safe using online banking.

What if they hate Paypal? Maybe people do. Why not a point-of-sale on your site? I'm sure Paypal's fees would be more than a direct merchant account with the credit card companies.

I don't know whether my bank allows that kind of transfer, so at the minute I'm looking into it. If they don't, I'll just switch banks.

i doubt it. i think paypal charges a flat fee? and a credit card is like 5% fee or something like that. you could set up a credit card payment system and say for credit cards you have to pay x amount more, for paypal x amount more, and if you pay cash/check you get the cheapest price.

I don't think Paypal is a flat fee. Knowing eBay, it's probably very much proportional. :D But I don't know. I wouldn't recommend telling people they have to pay more to use a credit card. That won't encourage anyone to buy.

The trouble is going to be your prices compared to the big guys because they get huge volume discounts. Granted, Dell and others use their own custom parts. With your systems, people will know everything is compatible, but they won't really be the type to know how to upgrade without spending a fortune sending it in to you. The big guys also get copies of Windows for much cheaper.

yup mass buying is much cheaper, look at things like costco. but you also have to remember, the big guys have more expenses, they have many more people to pay, and they have much more electricity, they have to run many more servers with internet, they have factories which cost alot of money to build.

people buy if you tell them they have to pay more for a credit card, when my and my fam were in europe we bough murano they would give like 5% more off if you used cash, but we're not stupid enough to bring 2k euro with us just for glass so my parents used a credit card. it's actually a bit more common then you'd think. well sort of i guess, especially if you live in the states it's not common at all. however, that's a big reason most fast food didn't use to take credit cards....not worth it. however, a major problem would be different card types....ec visa may charge 5% but amex may charge 7%, but i would recommend offering amex if you do offer cards

it's been shown that amex users are willing to pay large amounts on their cards, and are often the type of people that have money. all in all, if you decided to accept credit cards and build that into every computer, you either have to raise prices a bit, or take a huge hit on profits, for now i would say you should prefer check/cash over paypal/credit

Actually, I checked about the prices. Take my Celestial 8800GTX Edition for example. Now, go on Alienware.co.uk and customise a system to the same specs, without monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS or speakers. Massive price difference.

Just actually checked -

My system: £1500
Their system: £1900

There's the difference. I can't actually check the Celestial 42'', I don't think anyone does 42'' monitors :D

I didn't say they weren't overpriced. Their brand name lets them inflate prices, which gives them a higher profit margin.

Oh right, sorry. Well, I can't really charge for a brand name, and was'nt going to anyway. Anyway, at least now you know that I'm slightly cheaper. Also, I suppose you guys want some benchies from the systems to see if they're good value?

Well, benchies and proof of your systems built, pictures, etc. You should be able to build them if you are going to sell them, that should be part of the deposit of starting a business. The more you can visually show to verbally explain and support, the better.

It takes money to be successful to an extent, if you can't make a deposit and have financial backing you may want to go smaller time Ben. But if you can afford a few grand at least in your currency to build systems you want to sell, and show, even the 50" Plasma TV kit, you should be able to show it all setup and working. That's part of advertisement. The one part where you're lacking the most ATM is visual/advertisement. I'll give you props for continuing to try, which is good, but I don't believe you have the funds to back yourself.

How will the warranty work? Will the send the part to you so you can then send it to the company for RMA? Will you have stock to replace their part and RMA the part they return? Is there any warranty? What kind of legal documentation do you have in place to cover your ass in sales as to not get sued? If you cannot easily answer these questions with confidence and meaning that eveyone here can understand, you may want to slow down and go smaller. I'm not trying to offend or upset you, but point out the harsh reality of the business envirionment, as it's quick, cut-throat and expensive. You don't want Alienware and HP to notice you unless you can spend some big bugs to compete and protect yourself.

Take a step back, and look at how far you're going, because I believe it's too far for you to handle, whether you accept it or not. If this was local only for family/friends, you'd be okay, but you're talking multi-national in sales and advertisement, and that will kick you square in the ass if you're not on top of what's going on pretty much all of the time.

Please take what I say into consideration, go smaller, do just towers, mid-end, something you can afford to back if your deal/order fails, or you get into a legal battle for refund or something. It can happen, and does more often than not in this day and age!

Keep trying, you're doing a lot better than you were a couple months ago, but still pushing further than your wallet can account for. It helps to have imagination, but use it to make the best of what you can backup. If you're a rich kid, then go for the gusto and do the best you can. I wish you the best of luck and hope you'll take my words seriously, even if only as long as you've read this post.

Hey Ben

just had a look at your site. A few tips from me which I noticed. You need to be more specific about your parts used, eg. the media centre pc you have there states a 42in plasma tv. That is a little vague, I mean you can get one of those for 400 pounds or one for 2000 pounds..

Another point is you are using words like "sli'd", which may be classed as pc slang and some potential customers may not know what you mean, especially those rich kids who have 4 grand to spend on a pc for their birthday.

Another point I thought of, you said you want to use paypal for payments... That will cost you a fortune, when you recieve a payment from someone paypal takes their fee out. It works out around 3 bucks for every 100. which would be around 50 bucks for the 1500 dollar pc. That will add up pretty quick when you start getting customers..

I hope that helps a little. Good luck with it too mate. You will be surprised at how quickly something like this can take off.
