wolf, whats up man? You just got smoked by a stock 5870

i wonder what it could be? could it be he is using 1.7 and we've used 1.65?
I am using 1.7.0 also, so it must be somthing with his system or software. ;)

If you get bored, try 1.65 and lets see if there is a difference. I might try 1.7 now.

edit I just ran 1.7.0 and scored 9 pts higher than 1.65 so I would say that there isnt much of a difference.

I also want to ask, does the size of the users monitor matter when it comes to non-native res and the benchmark?

Like would I score the same if I used the same pc on a 24" 1920x1080 as a 28" 1920x1080?

You really should, because the card is just doing the same amount of work.
You can have a 32" FULL HD plasma for that matter, no difference in perfomrance.

Edit: To the furry donut!

he also ran his in windowed mode. that might be the diff?
There shouldn't be a 1000+ points difference....:respect:

Btw, I clock my CPU @3705Mhz on the OC test.

I did hey, I'm think catalyst 9.11 is where I should be, as I'm using the "8.663.1_Beta4_Hemlock_VistaWin7_Nov11" still

Doing so right now, shouldn't be more than 5 minutes, crazy that a stock 5850 smoked a 5870 @ 950/1200, if its more than drivers I'll be concerned.

resolution may account for some, but there isnt much between 1280x1024 and 1440x900

EDIT: no difference at all, I should be up around 10,000 but still at ~8,900

Just a point of interest, Fahim's score is done @1440x900.
I suggest a re-bench.

He also has cool and quiet on it looks like. Man those cards are awsome :rockout:

ur about 1000 points shy of his stock core 100mhz memory clock.. 5870 run. maybe try to test yours at stock to and see what happens?

ur only around 225 pts shy of his all stock score.. but your score is on a OC..

Stock clocks saw me ~8450 points, so the OC is helping, but this is tres bizarre mon ami.

I'll send a pm incase he doesnt see the thread

Hi,

Thanks for informing me. I didn't know it has to be 1280x1024, I just ran it at my default res. Will rebench my 5850 and the 5770 and post the pic. Thanks.

It shouldn't matter, CPU switches to 100% as soon as you launch apps, like intel cpus.

But I'll bench with C&Q off next time to see if there's any improvements.

Sure do.
I might post my HD4850 results later.

Sad thing is we don't see many HD5k owners coming in.

not many on the forums own them yet. We might see some after xmas.

I'll have 5770 crossfire results on monday/tuesday and i hear it keeps up with a 5870 and sometimes passes it.

Not a bad start but I did notice my cpu overclock is different from what I thought it was. I dont imagine it makes alot of difference.
