Well with the way things are going with this Vista computer (crash crash crash) they might have to use the older one.

are u able to figure out the crashes? BSODs of that machine? if not u need to disable the auto restart function (I always disable it for any BSOD issues)

Its all different types of crashes, memory management crashes etc, i just ignore it as i know the ram is near brand new and was working fine in my other XP machine.

But ill run mem test after its done with the updates and double check.

I think its just vista

Sometimes OS code gets so corrupt that it becomes more plausible to format fresh than try to repair the Code

This is a fresh install, but time will tell, i find that if you leave the machine for a good 10mins or so after its done a major update, it will then seem to work good with the next round of updates.

hmm how odd its a fresh OS install but crashes.

That can normally mean Ram, or CPU issues, how are the caps on that motherboard

Yea so ill double check the ram after its all done with these updates for the 4-5th time lol

CPU is a different CPU then what was in there originally but nothing majorly different, went from a 3200+ to a 3700+, m8 picked up the 3700+ on a K8N Sli mobo for $5.

Caps on the board are all good, even though the motherboard i did buy for a friend 6yrs ago didnt look after it very well and it had alot of dust and mud on it, but ive cleaned it up best i could and redone the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU etc.

Ive had many old Vista machines do the same thing, i put it down to a crap OS lol

BIOS has been reset, but no its not up to date yet, that is another thing ill be doing.

Sigh, dam thing has stopped at 43 out of 63 updates, but hasnt crashed, just sitting there doing nothing.

some updates take awhile to implement, Windows Vista u have to be patient

Well i finally got around in doing a memtest and what ya know, 1 of the 1GB sticks is faulty YAY, more delays, gotta send it back and wait for the new stuff to arrive.

Its cool but with windows having such crashes id run a checkdisk on it with certain switches.

Yea dont worry it already did its own chkdsk a few times lol and i also checked the HDD for bad sectors and it all came up good.

Now to put a price on the system hmmm
