Wierd problem. FX 8320 wont post on Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P on default settings of BIOS (reseting manual or after reset in bios). Everything spins but no post... If I replace CPU (PII 720 all OK in bios) change some settings like increese FSB to 220MHz, reduce voltage on 1.3V (I know that FX are very overvolted by AMD, they work on much lower voltage than default) and reduce NB and HT on normal and than put back FX system post-s and default settings (displayed in bios not system) are wrong for fx like voltage 1.275V insted 1.335 and NB set on 1400???... Now CPU works on 3.85GHz, 1.3V, memory on 1.46 GHz everything rock stable with temps below 60 C(CPU up to 54 C under intel burn test)...
Now playing to much with settings leeds to many take out, put back cpu with thermal paste and everything, and so I didnt play to much with settings... But reducing FSB on normal 200MHz and no post...?????WTF
Main problem is THERE IS ONLY ONE BIOS IN GIGABYTE SITE FOR MORE THAN YEAR so I only try to reflash bios, all same... Will they update it? Try to change RAM but all same...
What Gremlins are in my BIOS people because this is all but normal????? Or maybe CPU has some defects???

Mine booted up fine, with no problem at all. It sounds a bit odd, if it will not boot.

Yes, and especialy wrong setings for NB and voltage in bios... What are your settings for CPU?

Are you able to get into bios with the FX cpu installed? Is the heatsink installed properly too? Reset bios to stock and auto settings I had the ud3 board not the p version and everything booted just fine from install. Are you running latest F1 bios?

ok long shot. but have you.
turned off pc
unplugged psu from wall.
reset cmos (jumper setting, remove battery if it makes you feel better too "probably better safe than sorry")
try to power on pc with psu unplugged from wall (to discharge caps)
Wait a few minuets.
connect psu back to pc. "have bios battery in and cmos jumper back in normal possition)
Try to boot..
Do not enter bios do nothing at all. just let it go boot to windows.
Wait in windows for 1-2 minuets.
Tell windows to shut down pc.

If you can do that. It should fix it i think.
if you had to use the phenom to do the above.
go back in to the bios after you told windows to shut down.
and tell the bios to use default settings. save exit. and boot to windows.
again wait in windows for a litttle bit. then tel it to shut down the computer.
then install the Fx, any sort of luck it will then boot to windows. and you can ten tell it to re boot after a few mins, and Finally edit the bios how you want it.

its one of the issues i have had with gigabyte for a while. "secret methods to make the bios work properly after 3 failed over clocks/un known fail to starts"

its a long shot. but it is probably worth a try.
its the only way you used to get a lga 775 board to remember your settings after a bios flash or something, so could work. but dont hold your breath.

P.s

dont skip any of the steps either, it may seem like a waste of time to do some thing from the list, but thats what you used to have to do or the bios would let you change the seting but would not use them. and when you went back to the bios it would say it changed them but it really did not change them.
the only way to make it really change them was by doing what i said above.

Im thinking its gigabyte my 970ud3 wont play nice with the 8320 either it posts but its errors in linpac at stock settings with good temps.
seeing as how you have a UEFI bios im guessing the reversion 1.2/1.3 of the 970UD3 has the same issues so no point to RMA it.

Batou1986 he has the UD3P not a UD3 I had a UD3 that ran the fx8320 just fine with settings on auto problem may lie with the cpu since his P2 boots fine. Or a corrupt bios file more likely the fx cpu

I have a UD3P, not a UD3. Mine runs my fx8320 just fine. I agree his problems may lie with the CPU

There was only one version of that board 1.0 and one update to the bios shipped with that board, F1 I don't think gigabyte will be updating that bios anytime soon since there is not even a beta bios for it.

You mean this is alfa BIOS??? I think I wont play with settings to much and live it as it is now... Waisting Plrolimatec MK1 thermal paste (expensive)... Maybe from amd overdrive some tests fo get some more from CPU... Also what could be wrong with cpu when it works just fine? I bue it used and seller says it is 2 months old (is there a way to se if that is corect, like date of manufacure of cpu?)

The mobo shipped with one bios from the factory probably F0 and there is one updated to that F1 which has been released. Your mobo version or revision is 1.0 ver so they did not make any other versions of the this mobo or there would be ver 1.2 or 2.0 on gigabytes web site. You say you flashed the bios, I take it you flashed it to F1?
The manufacture date will not tell anything because the cpu could have sat on the shelf for a number of months before purchase. Buying used it a crap shoot, I tend to buy used computer stuff here because the sellers are stand up guys and if not they are not, they are not around very long. No telling what the real issue is, but because the P2 you have installs and boots fine under auto settings and you have under volt or under clock settings to get the FX cpu to boot leads me to think it is the cpu. I am no where near to you so much of this is armchair quarterbacking. The seller could have tried his hand at overclocking the cpu and fried something I have burnt many a cpu and mobo's up pushing OC's too far without proper cooling...

CPU is undervolted, but overclocked to 3.85, and I boot on 4.1GHz and pass intel burn test (10 iterations on standard) on 1.3V. One thnig I have noticed, AMD overdrive detects some wrong settings in bios like voltage (1.275) and some other things... I left computer this morning (3.85GHz) stressing it with intel burn test on very high for almost 1h and it is rock stable. Is there a way to check how good is my CPU? Are there some defects... ? And yes I reflash on F1 and it was F1, just to make certain it is good... Maybe it is RAM... I will try some other sticks when I can....
PROBLEM SOLVED!!! IT IS RAM...
Elimination of settings, system wont boot when I set RAM on 1600MHz with default settings (system does the same when I put FX in socket)... For PII system sets 1333MHz by default and so I can post normal... That shhhhhhit RAM so much problems ...
