So I was reading some reviews and threads today because im buying a 9950 BE tomorrow. Now I about shit my pants when I was reading these customer reviews that the northbridge on my board has been known to heat up to the point it catches the board on fire. Now I before thought my Northbridge was running hot at about 79c all the time. I was told by Gigabyte

"Hello,
MA790X-DS4 was fan less designed 78-80C on NB is acceptable, we have tested burn in system 72 hour system still run stable, should be problem don't worry about it , put in a chase fan if want to."

I really hate posting about temps cause I feel like the forum gets over run by these types of threads but, you understand my concern.

Do any of you have the same board running a 9950 or that series?

The 9950 is a 140W CPU. Most boards designed for phenom originally only supported 125W CPUs, so the MOSFETs and northbridges were burning out (early MSI's were very prone to this).

I'm not 100% sure if it was just the heat, or the voltage as well, so someone else will have to back me up, but with sufficient cooling you should be able to stop that, if your board doesn't support 140W CPUs that is.

The 125w or the 140w one? Either way I don't think the nb will get hot with the new cpu. Get a small little 40mm fan for it something if it's getting hot tho. I had a Gigabyte 780G die because the nb got too hot.

Thanks guys I'm going to monitor the temps and pick up a aftermarket chipset cooler or some fans incase it does elevate the current stable temp. More suggestions or thoughts are welcome. Im excited about the proc I just dont want to have to run out and buy a new board or risk damaging my hardware.

Hi M8´s

The Board runs great with a 140W 9950BE even on 3Ghz Stable 200*15 800Mhz@Ram no core Voltage raised
The only thing i had to bitch about is the Ram speed@1066
I bought 4*1GB Ocz Reaper 9600 1200Mhz and there was no way to get em Stable run@1066
at least i can say it a good and stable Board so far maybe i only had the wrong Ram chip´s

I switched to Asus m3a79-T Deluxe and bought 2 ne Corsair 2*2 GB Dominators and it runs Stable@1066 with 3,2Ghz 1,38V

I have my 9950be running like a dream now temps are 36-39 idle and 52 was as high as I could get it with some AS5. Thanks 3Dsage!!! This thing is great. I hope to get a better cooler soon.
