I bought an extra 2x1 GB G.Skill PC8500 memory modules that match my existing 2x1 GB G.Skill sticks for a total of 4GB on my Gigabyte GA-P45-UD3P motherboard. However, as soon as the extra memory was installed my system would hang on post and reboot. Rinse and repeat, system would run normal after pulling them out. I have ran memtest86+ on each stick individually on each dim slot. Pretty sure the memory is fine. Right now I am getting away with running 4x1 by putting pc6400 settings in my bios. I have tried bumping ram voltage to 2.1 with no luck at pc8500 speeds. Seems i can only run PC8500 with just two sticks.

Tried grabbing 2x2GB kingston PC 8500 sticks and the problem persisted until speed was dropped to pc6400.

Hoping I don't have to deal with shitty customer support from Gigabyte...

Populating all memory slots puts an additional strain on the Northbridge, try raising NB volts (and perhaps SB also), nothing too major, try a couple of increments at first. As there is also a link between the PCI-E lanes and NB you might try increasing that ever so slightly too if the former does not help.

Thanks I'll give that a shot and get back to you guys. NB is MCH on Gigabyte boards right?

I think the previous responses are correct. I had to bump mine up a little bit too. It currently sits at 1.26v (MCH Core) with 4 sticks running OC.

I bet that they are two sided modules. It is easier for the chipset to handle 4 one sided modules. It is also possible that the manufacturer used different chips in the newer modules.

I'm unsure whether they are dual sided chips or not. All the ram modules are identical; that I am absolutely sure of.

I tried 1.44 on the NB/MCH with 2.1v on the ram @ 1069. System got to the post screen then hanged before rebooting itself for the cycle to continue.

I changed the latch to 333, increasing the frequency to 1200~ and kept the voltages above the same. System would not even get to post. Just cycle power.

Also, I'd like to reiterate that I tried running 2x2 Kingston modules and had the same symptoms as running 4x1 G.Skill modules. Does that make any sense? O-o

I don't think my G.Skills are microns unfortunately.

Going off that Kingston is not all that great I tried 2x2 corsair sticks. Works like a charm now. :)

Been running Prime for 5 hours, the fact my system posted with pc8500 settings was heart warming.

Currently E8500 @ 3.8 w/ 1.168 Vcore (still testing stab.) 401 FSB

2.66x 400 latch on memory :D

Still wish the G.Skills could work, they are pretty.
